The Norman Oliver collection. Norman Oliver was three times Mayor of Bendigo - 1950-51, 1964-65, 1970-71. Two typed pages titled : Article 11. On New Zeeland for Melbourne Herald. By Emerald A. Goetzee. Dated : Wellington. May 25th 1952. The article includes a detailed description of the building and operations of the Wellington Central Library and mentions the other two Wellington libraries and other important buildings. Photographic Album - 19th Century Portraits. This album is in a handsome leather tooled cover with brass ring clasp - pages have gold edging to match the gold tooling on front cover.This album comes from ''Old Box 94'' which generally contains ephemera from Merle Bush. However, this album has no identifying inscriptions (but see the following notes). There are approx 44 portraits of children, males, females, mixed groups taken by a range of studio photographers (Sandhurst, Melbourne, Stuttgart and possibly from other cities?) There appear to be no inscriptions on the reverse of these photos - but not all have been removed for checking. One photograph (R Dermer Smith, Sandhurst has a photograph Number #753 on reverse and show a man/boy?, woman and child on the front verandah of a house. There are 6 loose cards within the book which may give some indication as to the family connection; 1. Mr W Tainsh - Echuca; 2. Frau Pastor Leypoldt - Lutheran Parsonage, Bendigo; 3. Small beige & grey box with a black oval sticker on the front. On it is printed in gold: Jewellers & Silversmiths White's Pall Mall, Bendigo. The sticker also has a gold border. The box contains 2 gold coloured medals with Off white 33mm ribbons, a silver medal and a small heart shaped cushion with a cross on the front and light blue edging and ribbon. The 2 gold coloured medals have 'Guard of Honour of the Most Blessed Sacrament' printed around the oval shaped edge. In the centre is a chalice? With IHS on it and at lower sides are 2 angels. On the back it has 'Stokes & Sons MXL?' The small, round silver medal has a man & boy on the front and on the back asking in case of accident to notify a priest. Black and white photograph of a weatherboard miners cottage known as 'Valley Inn". The differing age of extensions is evident as is the outside toilet (or dunny). The miners cottage, known as Valley Inn, is situated in Armstrong Street south, Ballarat and overlooks White Flat. According to neighbourhood folklore the large tree to the rear of the cottage was planted in memory of a son of the owner, who was killed during World War One. This dispenser was used by personnel working in the Nunawading City Council Historical Cottage, now known as Schwerkolt Cottage. The public gained entrance by purchasing adult / child tickets until about 1992When the council was renamed Whitehorse City Council. since that time entrance has been free.Wooden Ticket Dispenser, the top is manufactured with handmade painted base. Tickets for Child and Adult Admission held in place on top by a metal bar. Handwritten 'Instructions showing pricing and number of children admitted for free'.
