Slide photograph of two girls in bedroom. Believed in Stanhope from the label. Several photos are marked 4, 11, 12, 13, and were taken at the same time (see items 02509 - 02516) Stanhope was a residence run by Melbourne Legacy to take care of children whose fathers were deceased servicemen, and who may have been left orphans, or whose mother may have been unable to care for them herself, or they needed to stay in Melbourne for further education. Stanhope generally looked after girls over 14 either studying or working. The children were cared for until they were old enough to become independent. The slides have been photographed to make digital images and moved to archive quality sleeves. Copy taken of a framed certificate donated to Society by Sam Stones and returned to his descendant Sue Jorgensen to be restored. Sue Jorgenson added information on 30 May 2018 that this certificate was given to Robert Snart for his entry of wine. A colour photograph taken at The Crossways in Marysville on 22nd December, 2001. The Crossways was built in the early 1920s and is the oldest building in Marysville. The Crossways historic inn survived the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires thanks to the efforts of its co-owner Greg Cherry and, in the days after the fires, provided a much-needed refuge to the Marysville community and firefighters.
