Newspaper article titled '24 Tons of Winding Gear'. It has a picture of the winding gear being held by two large cranes. There is a low loader behind it. Some men are looking on. The winding gear was moved from the North Deborah Mine to the California Gully Railway Depot. It was purchased by Mr Arthur Holt and could possibly be sold to a mining company in Western Australia. Typed Addendum for Page 9. Mentioned is the initials of Captain Truscott who was officer in charge of the Long Gully Fire Brigade from 1919 to 1920 was A T Tony. Next is after the brigade was deregistered the station was demolished and rebuilt at Haggar St Eaglehawk for use as a bakery. It traded under the name of Dingle's Modern Bakery. After World War 2 it was taken over by a bedding company, then later RAOB Buffalo Lodge Hall. Cornish humour and dialect is also mentioned. Copy of a newspaper article titled The Impersonator of Peg-leg Gully, The Woman of Many Wives by J P Quaine. Article mentions Edward De Lacey Evans who successfully impersonated a male and was married at least three times. After a head injury Evans was admitted to the Bendigo Hospital as a lunatic and remained for some weeks without arousing any suspicions. The secret was discovered when transferred to a Melbourne Institution. An historical overview of the mine is provided with information regarding its location, depth of shaft, original company, engine house, air compressor, battery and years of operation. One hundred and forty-three page brown cardboard covered 'First book of Arithmetic' for use of schools issued by the Commissioner of National Education, Ireland, dated 1876. Unknown donor however small card loosely inserted between pages states in print, 'Owned by Mr Wm Truscott, Esler Street, California Gully, Sandhurst. Handwritten inside front page identical. Bendigo Advertiser "The way we were" from Wednesday, October 6, 2004. A full life: this photograph is of Annie Carr, born in 1849 in New Zealand. Her parents were William Carr, a blacksmith from London and Jane Jamieson of Kilbirnie, Scotland. She arrived in Sandhurst in June, 1854 with her parents and her sister Sarah. Sarah drowned in October 1854, in a waterhole at Maiden Gully. Annie married Louis Searle in 1871 and went on to have 14 children.
