Ephemera - Ticket, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), Block of SEC 1/6 weekly tickets
Each ticket medium weight card, on manila coloured (210gsm) card and printed on black ink to give day numbers, monthly, week number, transfers and day of week, excluding Sunday. Numbered on right end of ticket. Static number (1 - 7) on left indicate it may be the day of issue. Each ticket has been stamped "CANCELLED" On the rear of the ticket is the details of the ticket use, allowing the passenger one return journey between City and section 2-3 or 3, or between 2-3 and 4. Not available on Sundays. Form Number TYE 2-12. Note: See Reg. Item 230 on the page dated Feb. 22 for another two weekly tickets, c1950, price 2/6. Printed in off-white card in red ink. Available for travel between city and section 3 or 4. See also Reg. Item 2103, 2104, 2105, and 2106. Ephemera - Ticket/s, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), SEC 1-1/2d, 1940's?
Block of about 175 tickets - black ink on 60 gsm buff paper, denomination 1 1/2d (printed in red), numbered Bc410619 - B410799, headed State Electricity Commission of Victoria, Electricity Supply Department, Provincial Tramways. Originally a block of 200 tickets been stapled onto a heavy cardboard back with a heavy metal staple and a small cardboard retaining strip at the top of the ticket. The ticket number is in black ink while the "Bc" prefix is in red. On the back of each ticket is a "Bushells, the Tea of Flavour" advertisement. On each side various codes when clipped denoted the destination or section the ticket was validated for. Tickets Nos - 410634 - 38 have been torn out prior to collection. Each ticket in block has been stamped "CANCELLED". Thought to be used prior to 1950's around the second world war. See Reg. Certificate, John Phillips, BTPS Driver's Certificate, mid 1980's
BTPS Tram Drivers Certificate printed on fawn stippled paper with brown ink printing and BTPS Tram loco on left BTM corner. Stamped No. 1 and dated as issued to Driver Gavin Young on 22/12/74. Signed by R.Gilbert Traffic Manager. These certificates were printed in the mid 1980's and backdated to when the driver's passed their exams. On the reverse side there is no printing and it is a white sheet of paper. Note: Used for driver's certificates until the BTPS was renamed to the BTM, then a new type issued. Piece of trolley wire taken from North bound wire between poles 1 & 9 - curved, worn on underside, with longer or sharper groove on inside than normal, probably due to metal flow. Demonstrates aspects of the SEC governance system in issuing By-laws for the travelling public, as part of their Act. Yields information about fares charged for tram services in Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong. Issued to crews.Small book with 32 pages, 27 printed on, with green cloth hard covers, sewn into cover. On front cover, printed in white ink is SECV name, logo, words, "Provincial Tramways", "Instructions for Tramway Traffic Inspectors", "Issued 1951", and a note that the book remains the property of the SEC. Inside cover as above with location for name and date to whom book was issued to. Indexed. Contents gives rules for behaviour, ticket checking procedures, reports, traffic supervision, safety and accidents. Copies 2 and 3 on display in cabinet in 39 since 1992 until 10/04. Copies 4, 5 and 6 - each have BTPS Catalogue Number written in on title page. (revised 12/8/05) Copy 7 - added 17/1/2007 - issued to Dave Kellett. Copy 9 - added 6/12/15 - issued to Tramway Superintendent - Les Denmead - 25/7/1952. Full pdf scan added 28/5/2019. Negative No. N377 and black and white print made by a laser printer (stored in folder) of Ballarat No. 17 at the City Terminus, Sturt St. Tram has destination of "Victoria St." and a White Horse whiskey dash panel advertisement. Has the short tram stop/section pole adjacent to the tram. In the background has the SEC offices, "The Baby Shop", also Crockers and Tunbridge's stores. Note a Conductor can be seen walking across from the SEC offices to the tram. Date of photo on folder - 11/6/1960. Note: Reg Item 858 of Ron Fluck of 31/12/58 shows tram number to the side of the headlight while Wal Jack (Reg. Item 396) of 23/1/61 shows tram fitted with dash canopy lights. Demonstrates the Museum's ticketing systems and ongoing production of tickets.Four Blocks of 100 tickets - black ink on off white paper, with ticket number in black ink denomination $1, headed Ballarat Vintage Tramway. On rear in black ink is an advertisement for the Tram Family Restaurant, corner Macarthur and Drummond St. North. The 100 tickets have been stapled onto a heavy brown cardboard back with a heavy metal staple and a small brown cardboard retaining strip or butt at the top of the ticket. 2432.1 - A00001 to A00100 (The first block collected at the time of issue 1/12/1987) 2432.2 - A00201 to A00300 (collected at the same time) 2432.3 - A00301 to A00400 (collected at the same time) 2433.4 - A00001 to A00100 (lighter black ink, larger block size the others, was part of a rejected run of tickets by the printer, printing too light, wrong type of paper and too large size to that ordered, rest of tickets were returned.) The tickets are in the style of the former State Electricity Commission of Victoria tramway tickets. Tickets in use as adult return fare from 1/12/87 to 30/6/91. Note last block issued 19/1/1991. Each issue has a standard cover, of the magazine name etc, featuring "Wee Folks Productions" models but are in different colours, all have been saddled stapled with two staples, except No. 6. The Volume and date details have been over printed. Back covers inside back covers have the same advertisements but the font varies vary. Printed for daily use, with Day and date page headings - made out for the 1930's. Text generically printed feint ruled paper. Newspaper clippings contained within Reg. Item 2526, page 11 and 12. Cutting on page 11 titled "Lament and Reverie on Passing of Melbourne's Cable Trams", written "By a Former Traveller", with date of 26-10-1940 in blue pence. Notes that the person was glad not to know of the last run of the Melbourne cable trams, the previous Saturday. Laments their passing, rides, crews, St. Kilda Road, the tramcars and the services provided. At the base of the cutting has a photograph of cable trailer No. 1 being off loaded in Lonsdale St. to go into the Museum. Cutting on page 12, titled "Cable Trams .... Clang Into History" written by Hugh Murphy. Appears to have been written prior to their withdrawal in Melbourne but noting their closure at the end of the year. Notes the construction, the costs, Mr. F.B. Clapp, G. S. Duncan, operations, the various routes, the services and the gradual deterioration of the track. Ticket contained within Reg. Item 2526, page 58, SECV - Ballarat Tourist Ticket - 1/- on light weight card, white colour - punched for October 5, 1939, for use in Ballarat. Has three conductor's punches in the right hand margin of the ticket. Has numbers "1" to "31" on bottom section of the ticket. On rear has year and month of use.
