Eight page booklet, off white paper, saddle stapled, with additional yellow Rexene light weight cover titled "The Australian Tramway and Motor Omnibus Employees' Association / Agreement / Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong". Details basic wages, adjustments with CPI, minimum rates to employees, time off between shifts, extra duties, meal breaks, cash shortages, holidays, Sundays, leave, free travel, uniforms. Dated 23/3/1937. Two copies held See also 8078.2 for another copy."Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society Catalogue No. 217" in ink on top of first page on both copies. Copy 1 - has name "P.H. Thomas" (?) on front cover and inside title sheet and numerous notes and some changes in ink and pencil throughout. Copy 2 - has numerous notes etc throughout with dates up to 16/11/1939. Yields historical notes about the method of track construction in Bendigo, the poor condition of the rails at the time of the report and the need to do work at Charing Cross.Typed foolscap sheet note or report titled "Bendigo Tramways - Tracks". Gives notes on the track construction methods of ESCo and reconstruction by the SEC. In the section titled 'Present Condition of Tracks". Note says need to obtain photographs and comments as for Ballarat. Also mentions that the CRB is anxious to re-deck the bridge running under Charing Cross - written date? Probably written for a report into the tramways by the SEC as part of a recommendation to close them. Black and White photograph, of Bendigo 3 climbing Mitchell St, near the Railway Station with the Destination of Quarry Hill. Has a Hutton's Ham ad on the front drivers panel and two rood ads. In the background are Sandhurst Dairies shop advertising Toppa Ice Cream, a boot repairer and a van marked Jeffreys Bread parked on the north side of Mitchell St. Nearing the point where the double track became single - see the signal wire insulators in the overhead. Sign - City of Greater Bendigo Coat of Arms, City of Greater Bendigo
Twenty seven individually cast brass or bronze pieces. The 'City of Greater Bendigo' lettering was previously hung near the front exterior entrance of the 191 Lyttleton Street Terrace municipal offices with the Coat of Arms on the exterior second floor balcony. Both could be seen from the street. The word 'Greater' was added after the 1996 amalgamation. The Lyttleton Terrace land was sold in 2019 to the State Government and the Coat of Arms and lettering were removed prior to demolition. Each individual piece has fastening bolts still attached on reverse.Most pieces have texta lettering on the reverse and directional arrows. The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. It was the first independent school of nursing in Victoria and continued until it closed in 1989.Black and white photograph of four nurses in casual clothes, with the brother of another nurse, thought to be taken on the top of One Tree Hill Lookout Bendigo. 1955 - 57 Names written on back. Photocopy of an article in the State Electricity Commission of Victoria Magazine, Contact, Vol 1, No. 4, Feb 1937 titled "Electricity Supply and Tramways / Reconditioning the Tramway Systems at Ballarat and Bendigo". Each item had a thin strip of paper attached by staple to the top left hand corner, giving the Vol. No. details. The item gives the background to the takeover from ESCo. Details some of the work undertaken in both Ballarat and Bendigo, including the widening of double track in McCrae St to 10' to allow ex MMTB trams to run. Work at Grenville St - City Loop, the method of track laying in Ballarat - concrete stringers, welded joints, financial arrangements for the work - employment council. Includes replacement of trolley wire. Features photos of reconditioned track on the Eaglehawk Route and a caterpillar tractor. Record revised 31/3/2019 to replace images with those from Andrew Cook CD and to include item .1 .1 - Item also was originally printed with different photographs in the Electrical Engineer and merchandiser Sept 15 1936. The site of the former Kew Congregational Church was the earliest 'built' place of religion in Kew. An earlier building by Charles Vickers was replaced by a new brick church designed by Albert Purchas. Following the creation of the Uniting Church, the church at 30 Walpole Street was declared redundant and demolished to make way for the Bodalla Nursing Home (itself later demolished).Faded colour print positive of the former church in Walpole Street, Kew.
