Partington's Flat Greensborough was created in the 1950s when Heidelberg Council bought 12 acres from the Partington family to make the park. Fruit trees can be seen in this photograph. Gary Partington (on 2/2/2017) was hazy on the precise locale of the photo. From the Jessie Partington Scholes collection. Jessie was an amateur singer from age 12 to her death and a member of the pioneering Partington family of Greensborough. The item is her admission ticket as a choir member for the memorial service for the late King George Vi, held at Victoria's Parliament House on 17th Feb 1952. The item is a limited edition as it was only distributed to choir members. It is in good condition and has reliable provenance through her niece, Faye Partington Fort. This item is significant as part of the Jessie Partington Scholes Angus (1902-1989) collection. The Partington family are Greensborough pioneers.Printed on buff card. Edged with black. Kangaroo Ground pioneers James Johnston (died 1895) with his wife Elizabeth commenced building this stone house on his Pretty Hill property, Kangaroo Ground in 1842. It was one of the oldest homes in the district till 1938 when new owner Mr Percy Cope, a master builder demolished the old building and a new brick building was erected in its place. Pretty Hill is one of the highest spots in the district with splendid views of the surrounding country.This photo forms part of a collection of photographs gathered by the Shire of Eltham for their centenary project book,"Pioneers and Painters: 100 years of the Shire of Eltham" by Alan Marshall (1971). The collection of over 500 images is held in partnership between Eltham District Historical Society and Yarra Plenty Regional Library (Eltham Library) and is now formally known as 'The Shire of Eltham Pioneers Photograph Collection'. As part of a program to acknowledge the Anzac Centenary Nillumbik Shire Council partnered with Yarra Plenty Regional Library to provide a bus tour with commentary of local sites of significance. Postcard image of W. Morris Evelyn Hotel, cnr. Main Road and Pitt Street, Eltham, opposite present hotel. This image is post the 1910 fire which damaged the southern two-storey section. It was rebuilt as single story. The hotel was delicensed in 1919 and became a Dining Room then a boarding house.
