Covers the history of the horse trams, the electrification by the Electric Supply Co. of Victoria, (ESCo) the takeover by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), closure in 1971, the formation of the BTPS and the operation of the tramway. Includes a list of the Museum tramcars at the time, details of the trams, many photos and a map of the system, depot layouts. Images of each page included in the image file. Document - Letter/s, Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society (BTPS), "Restoration of A Double-deck Horse Tram", 1985
Copy of a letter and associated documents written to the Town Clerk, City of Ballaarat, dated Aug 1, 1985 seeking the support of the Council in attaining the body of the tramcar in Ballarat East. (Tram was actually obtained in December). Signed by the Secretary, Richard Gilbert. Mentions Frank Hanrahan as President for further information. Enclosed within letter is a two page note on BTPS Letter head outlining the history of the tramcar, its restoration, current condition, possible operation and value of the restoration. Attached as well is a folded drawing out an Adelaide double deck horse tram (Reference Reg. Item No. 706.1 ) and a photocopy of the builders of the first horse tram at the depot in 1887 (Reference Reg. Item No. 765 ). Twenty two page document, outlining the Acts and Regulations of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria with an introduction, dated 28 may 1958. Gives background to the Electricity Commissioners Bill of 1918, SEC ACTS, General Powers and responsibilities, SEC ACT of 1929, which allowed for operation of Tramways, and associated provisions and powers, Yallourn Township, Tramways By-Law No. 1, Orders in Council for local councils to supply power and wiring rules etc. Printed by a duplicating process onto paper with rounded corners. Pages held in top left hand corner by a brass split binder. Demonstrates the Museum's ticketing systems and ongoing production of tickets.Block of 200 tickets - black ink on off white paper, denomination 10c, lettered A 177800 to A 177999, headed Ballarat Tourist Tramway. The 200 tickets have been stapled onto a heavy cardboard back with a heavy metal staple. The tickets are in the style of the former State Electricity Commission of Victoria tramway tickets. Tickets in use as child return tickets from 24/12/1975 to 1/11/75 and as child single tickets in 1/11/75 to 30/6/78. See BTM Fare Chart. Demonstrates aspects of the Ballarat Tramways management system of operations, the way the crews were given information on operating times, lunch breaks etc. The last timetable alteration.Single sheet of off white duplicating paper titled "On and Off - Total Times of Duty". Printed by wax cut stencil or Gestetner method. Details the sign on / sign off times for each run number operated by Motormen / Conductors and where they signed on, either depot or city and the total time worked for that particular shift. Has "LJD / 3/70", showing that Les Denmead authorised the roster. Was part of D. J. Everett papers. 2296.1 - as above, but typed original in a vertical or portrait format, rather than a landscape format.
