soft cover non-fiction book, Prisoners of War From Gallipoli to Korea, 1992
The traditional image of a prisoner of war is that of an emaciated, diseased and ill-treated figure humiliated by incarceration. Prisoners of War challenges this image. Using dozens of interviews with former POWs, Patsy Adam-Smith shows the strength and courage of Australians taken prisoner in World War I, World War II and the Korean War. Says Patsy: 'This book has not been written for ex-prisoners: they know the homesickness of exile, the tyranny of bondage; it was written for those people of today who know little of the experiences of these men and women, of their courage, endurance and pain. It has been written for the generations to come.soft cover non-fiction book -

Book, John Masefield, Gallipoli, 1978
The Gallipoli campaign began one fateful Sunday morning in April 1915. It was to be Australia's test of nationhood. The Allied soldiers landed in the dark, crossing beaches tangled with barbed wire, passing mines and scaled the precipitous cliffs under machine-gun fire. An intense five-month campaign ensued, the lines so close that there was no respite from battle. With access to military documents, the poet John Masefield published this moving account of the Allied efforts in the Dardanelles less than a year after the defeat. The book was a huge success, as it gave glory to the bravery and determination of the young men who endured heat, toil, thirst, disease and pestilence but were always ready and willing to die in exultation for their cause.. Steven Cooke, The Sweetland Project : remembering Gallipoli in the Shire of Nunawading, 2015
A chance discovery made on a tour of Anzac Cove provided an immediate link between Gallipoli and Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs. In the lead up to the Centenary of Anzac, ‘The Sweetland Project’ (named after a Box Hill man, Stephen Sweetland) became a broader search for the connections between Gallipoli and the former Shire of Nunawading, revealing 27 men from the former shire who died during the Gallipoli campaign. This book traces their stories and the reaction to the Great War of the local community, and shows how personal and collective memories of their experiences still resonate today.Index, bibliography, notes, ill, p.211.non-fictionA chance discovery made on a tour of Anzac Cove provided an immediate link between Gallipoli and Melbourne’s Eastern Suburbs.
