The land for this building was granted to the Benevolent Society by James Atkinson in 1850. Tenders were being called for a new "Benevolent Asylum" in 1855, the foundation stone having been laid and by 1856 the first part of the Hospital was completed. There is a rubberised stamp surface, with wording that reads 'RECEIVED. WINLATON". A window for a date appears in the centre between the two words. The date on this stamp is set to '8 December 1992'. This is the day after the Winlaton institution was permanently closed.
