The council last week passed amendment 1.38 to rezone the land to light industrial, allowing the subdivision to go ahead. Newspaper Clipping from "The Mail", 13-6-95. "Assault figures jump in city area"'.Assaults in the City if Maroondah last month more than doubled over the April figure. Apart from the increase in reported assaults, overall crime reports in May were down by 83 on the same time last year. Ringwood CIB Senior Sergeant Jenny O'Toole said publicity, co-operation from the public and increased patrols by uniform and bicycle police were heloping to reduce the number of burglaries. -

George ArundelBagpipe player George Arundel thinks there is something special about a man with a beard dressing up in a skirt and playing the pipes. "It's the theatrics of it all that I love", Mr Arundel, a member of the Ringwood Highland Pip[e Band, said. Mr Arundel began playing the bagpipesas a boy growing up in Glasgow in 1966, and has been playing them ever since. -

A German participant's account of the naval battle between the disguised German Raider HSK "Kormoran", and the Australian Light Cruiser HMAS "Sydney" off the West Australian Coast, Both vessels sank. The "Sydney" with all hands. The account follows his time in the lifeboat, his rescue, time in hospital in Perth then as Prisoner of War in Camp 13, Murchison, Vic.The author Dahm is listed as a crew member of HSK "Kormoran", and as a Prisoner of War in the National Australian Archives.
