Programme - Reverend Oliver Spencer Heyward
Oliver Heyward was born in Tasmania 16/3/1926 and died in Melbourne 15/12/2003. He was a Tasmanian Rhodes Scholar in 1949 and was ordained into the Anglican Church in England in 1954. He initially served in England before returning to Tasmania and then Victoria. Upon his enthronement as Bishop in 1975, he became the 6th Bishop of Bendigo from 1975 - 1991. Black and white photograph of sign describing the Bishop's Chair. Sign reads ' This chair was the original Bishop's Throne (Cathedra) from All Saints Old Cathedral used by the first Bishop of Bendigo (Henry Langley) when the diocese was created in 1901. Subsequently it was presented to Bishop Donald Baker upon his retirement to become Principal of Ridley College, Parkville, Melbourne. It has been presented to the R.H.S.V. Bendigo Branch by the cathedral chapter as an historic relic of that early period in Anglican Church life in Bendigo.topic -
