Robert Harper & Co had an industrial complex on Beach Rd from Sandridge lagoon to Post Office Place. A wide variety of goods were produced including rice, starch, spices, cocoa, flour, spices, oatmeal, jelly crystals. Most of the complex was demolished around 1980 but some buildings have been transofmed into apartment blocks.Digital copy of Black and White photo mounted on card with the words "Harpers Picnic 1908" written below. The group of twenty two (22) includes two young children and the whole group are dressed in their finery and one man in the centre appears to be playing the piano accordion. During demolition of the 1937 Missions to Seamen building in October 1995, this stone was removed intact by developers Mirvac Victoria, and place in the care of the PMH&PS. It is now located as part of the seawall around the car park in front of Nott St. There is a photo of the item on the database, taken in the 1990s while the stone was stored at St Joseph's school in Stokes St.Two photographs taken September 2015 by member Bob Gooding .02 The foundation stone .03 the accompanying plaque - Cornerstone 1888, originally laid at the Victorian Seamen's Institute corner Nott and Beach Street (Fox Hay building today). Murals: Eileen Robertson, a GMH employee, was asked to do the murals in 1948 for the launching of the Holden. Her brief was to 'do something to do with transport'. In the event, they were covered anyway. She did not even view them again until 1992, around the time the murals were cleaned and restored. The left mural shows pioneer transport and on the right is the future.
