Provides information about a system of safe working on a single line tramway or interurban railway or tram line. Has an illustration of the signal, coloured on the front cover. Gives details of the company, automatic electric block signals for 'railways' - interurban operation. The type K2-signal is one that can register up to 15 cars into and out of a section. Gives details, line diagrams and electrical details of this signal works, installation requirements and Trolley Contactors. Centre page has an electric diagram. Received by ESCo 4/11/1926.Yields information about a system on controlling vehicles on a single line railway or tramway section.Twenty page book, printed on art paper, centre page electrical diagram and light blue covers, titled "United States Electric Signals - Type K-2 Signal", with three centre staples. Functional Object - Section Staff, Electric Supply Co. of Vic (ESCo), "Car Shed Loop / Macarthur St Loop"
Demonstrates aspects of Safeworking on the Ballarat Tramway system from 1960 to c1936 when replaced by electric signs. Yields Information about the operation of Ballarat's trams and safeworking procedures.Cast brass item with a flat part recessed section with the words "BALLARAT TRAMWAYS SECTION STAFF" cast into the surface and a flat section underneath, flush with the outside edges in which the words "CAR SHED LOOP / MACARTHUR ST LOOP" stamped in. Has an open rounded end which forms a handle or a point where it could be hung on a peg. The stamped area appears to have been polished compared to the others. Used as a means of authorising a tramcar to have sole use of the track between the named points to avoid head on collisions. Safeworking object - known as a section staff. Not known when made, but in use until the introduction of the electric signalling in the mid 1930's by the SEC. Demonstrates the early days of the Electric Supply Co of Victoria tram's in Ballarat, the use of cross bench or toast rack trams and the intersection of Grenville, Bridge and Sturt Sts Ballarat.Sepia toned photograph of ESCo crossbench car No. 19, at Sturt and Grenville Sts. with the Bucks Head Hotel in the background and Cowdell Tonner and Ellis drapers store on the corner of Bridge and Grenville St. The tram has the destination of Convent/Gardens. Black and white postcard of Charing Cross Bendigo, early 1950's or late 1940's. Rose Series postcard P13585, of a bogie tram heading to Eaglehawk behind the fountain and a single trucker heading for Golden Square hidden behind a pole. A number of motor cars in the scene along with people in summer clothing. In the background is the Beehive building, Mobilgas advertisement on top of the Beehive building and "Melba Frocks" shop on the corner, later Ezywalkin shoes. Two ESCo trams are in the photograph, the one nearest the camera with a "Vote No" advertisement on the back of the tram. The second tram, the furthermost from the camera appears to be towing a horse tram trailer. See image i3. Alan Bradley advised 22/12/11 - "The picture appears to be taken in 1930, which was the year of a local option referendum. There are several pics showing ESCo trams with "VOTE NO"on the ends. In my research someone noted a tram with "VOTE YES "on one end and "VOTE NO"on the other! A black car on the south side appears to be a late 1920s model. If the front tram is towing a horse tram trailer, it would be for the bicycle carrying service. Many employees on the morning shift rode to the depot to sign on, and signed off in the city so their bikes needed to be transported." Published by Rose Stereograph Co., Armadale Victoria. Yields information about the planning options that were used for formulate garden routes timetables at various service levels.Single rolled graph sheet which has two sets of runs drawn on it, showing the Gardens via Convent and Ripon St routes from Grenville showing how the tram service would operate and where the trams crossed each other. One graph set shows a 6 car, 7.5 min service and the other a four 10 minute service. Gives the miles and minutes. Would have been used to prepare rosters and timetables. From a Melbourne Cable Car Trailer, built by the Melbourne Tramway and Omnibus Co. circa 1885. It is cast in 2 halves and then the 2 pieces forged together. It is a poor example due to a poor sand system employed.
