Sculpture made by Pte Bruno Simon V377556, a 30 year old internee who became a member of the CMF Employment Company. After Nazism came to Germany in 1933, Simon studied sculpture in Paris and Florence and then came to Australia. Sister Martha (Florence Gertrude Edwards) was Kindergarten Superintendent at the Carlton Methodist Mission. She married the Reverend George Fielding Dyson in 1936 after the death of his first wife in 1934. Rev. Dyson's son Fielding George Martin Dyson was killed in a motorcycle accident on 9 April 1936. Two memorial windows for the first Mrs Dyson were installed in the Palmerston Street Methodist Church. This racquet belonged to Miss Florence (Florrie) Carlson, born on 25/1/1892. She resided at 62 Station Street, Sunbury.Wooden tennis racquet with black, red and plain gut strings. Piece broken off end of racquet handle. Frame broken on one side and repaired with string. Other side repaired with tape. Miss Florence Perry was at the centre of a strong and vibrant musical culture in Clunes which featured a brass band, a men's mouth organ band, an orchestra and church choirs. The success of Miss Perry's choirs in competitions was a source of pride in the town and a cause for celebration. After their success in Melbourne in 1906, the Juvenile Choir were greeted at the Railway Station on their return by the brass band and well wishers before attending an impromptu concert at the Town Hall. Miss Perry herself was born in Clunes in 1880 and worked as a music teacher in the town. Her father was the conductor of the Clunes Orchestra.
