An late 18th century court tennis racquet, made from two pieces of interlocked wood, secured with two screws. One is the handle/throat, the other is the shoulders/head. The latter unfortunately had, at some point in the past, split at the crown, and whipping was applied to reinforce it. The gut stringing is three-way. The throat and lower shoulders have been hand painted, with both linear and floral designs. Across the thoat on the obverse is the monogram which reads 'BWB'. This hotel was located in Chute Street Diamond Creek. The site was from the C.F.A. station east to the corner. In 1925 this hotel was burnt down at 11.00 am on a week day and the street was closed by police because the lighting system used petrol gas and an explosion was feared. Fortunately there was no explosion. This photo shows the gutted structure after the fire. This photograph was published in Church and Nation 12 December 1984. The photograph was taken at celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of Parkdale Uniting (formerly Methodist) Church. The current brick veneer building incorporated an earlier weatherboard church built on the site. The old church was brick veneered and tiled in 1961. New kindergarten rooms were built at the rear in 1970.
