William Gay was born in Scotland inn1865. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1885 and then on to Australia in 1888. He spent the last four years of his life in Bendigo where he wrote his best known individual poems - "Australia 1894", "Australia Infelix" and "Australian Federation".Order of Service booklet for Centenary Commemorative Service in memory of William Gay - A Poet for Federation (2.5.1865 - 22.12.1897).
