Richard W. Richards was Principal of the Ballarat School of Mines, and was a member of the Shackleton Antarctic Expedition. He was one of seven survivors of the Ross Sea Party who were stranded in Antarctical during Ernest Shackletyon's ill-fated 1914 expedition.
