The 1/15 Royal New South Lancers and 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles were sister armoured corps regiments of the Citizen Military Forces, now Army Reserve, formed in 1948. Photo of Senator Barney Cooney (standing on left) with the recipients of two new wheelchairs. Senator Cooney represented the Department of Veterans Affairs when he presented the wheelchairs and a cheque for $7,000 to President George Woodward at Legacy House. The article in the Answer newsletter mentions: 'The grant of $7,000 will greatly assist Legacy's programs by covering the cost of bus hire needed for the regular outings organised during the year and the wheelchairs will provide additional assistance allowing more Junior Legatees to participate in activities.' After the presentation the junior Legatees went to the cinema and 10 pin bowling. Every month Legacy's handicapped dependents were invited to go on outing for take part in recreational and educational activities. These programmes aimed to develop independence and thus lessen the need for reliance on others for simple routine functions. Once a year there is a two week camp this also gave the mothers some respite. The presentation case was produced as a Welfare Fundraising item and could be displayed on shelf or the like; the medallions are a simple but meaningful depiction of the Australian Armed Services engaged in the Vietnam war. A simple but meaningful presentation of six elements of Australian Armed Forces during the Vietnam War.Set of six medallions with a picture of each of six elements of Australian Armed Forces in Vietnam and commemorating 50 years since the Vietnam War: Navy, Air Force, Armour, Artillery, Infantry, Signals. Medallions are in a presentation case with inside cover a depiction of various Australian Services. Book, Dr John Springthorpe, In Memoriam, c.1897
The Springthorpe Memorial is the most important monument in the Boroondara General cemetery. It commemorates Annie Constance Springthorpe (nee Inglis), the wife of Dr. John Springthorpe (1867-1897). Following his wife’s death, Dr john Springthorpe worked with John Longstaff to produce a book, entitled ‘In Memoriam’ for his personal collection, for his children and for immediate family members. Designed by Longstaff, it contained poems, photographs, drawings and idealised memories of Annie and their life together.This is one of two copies of In Memoriam in the collection of the Kew Historical Society.
