The raspberry patch in the foreground belonged to Woniger Hansen who built Mountain Rest (Rostrevor). The land was subdivided after his death in 1923. The photo is of Sturt St showing Town Hall Ballarat Vic, looking east towards Grenville St from Doveton St. An ESCo tram is in the far distance. In the view are Stansfield and Smith, Snows, and the Bucks Head Hotel. On the left can be seen Shoppee's Square marketplace tents. Photo is very similar in location to item 7364, a later version of this Rose Series photo with the same number 1712. Valentines Series Postcard, No. 3308 of "View Point", Bendigo, Charing Cross with the fountain prominent in the photograph. No. 16 (left hand side) is bound for Golden Square and No. 13, to Quarry Hill. Late 1930's? In the background, The Beehive stores, A.E. Sayer Chemist, J. Edwards Jeweller and watchmaker with a large clock on the top of the shop, Matthews Bros - suits and men's clothes and Wrights Stores - tobacco and spirits. Also advertisements for Dunlop and Goodyear tyres. On rear of card is Valentines real photo series logo and that published in Melbourne and Sydney.
