Carl Benno Schwerkolt was the youngest of August and Pauline Schwerkolt's children. He married Wilhelmina Both, the youngest child of Wilhelmina Oppel who became August Schwerkolt's second wife. Alice Tanner nee Schwerkolt was the granddaughter of August & Paulina Schwerkolt. She was the child of Louis Schwerkolt and Francisca (Both) Kruse who was the daughter of August's second wife, Wilhelmina. In 1913 Alice married William Martyn Tanner. After her mother and brother died, Mary lived with her uncle, John Kruse. They realised that her mother Wilhelmina had wrongly given the cottage to Louise Schwerkolt, which was not in accordance with August Schwerkolt's will. In 1909, when Mary was 22, she and her uncle set sail on Seydlitz for Melbourne in order to gain title to her inheritance. John Kruse was the brother of August Schwerkolt"s second wife, Wilhelmina. Born in Germany he had spent some time in Australia bur eventually settled in Pittsburg USA. Thirteen years after August died, Wilhelmina moved to Pittsburg with John & Mary, but within three years Wilhelmina and son John had died. Mary, then an orphan lived with uncle John Kruse. The dress was made for Rosalie Schwerkolt for her marriage to Marvin Bruce Whalen at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Gardiner, Victoria on Wednesday 1st June, 1966 and afterwards at Butleigh Wootton, 867 Glenferrie Road, Kew. Rosalie was married from 33 Straughton Road, Glen Iris.Rosalie is the great granddaughter of Johann August Schwerkolt, pioneer of Mitcham.1966 wedding dress of silk, velvet in Winter White colour lined in silk voile. The dress is a princess line with round crew neck. Sleeves are narrow and taper to a point using a dart and with a zipper fastening on seam. The arm seam also features three pleats at the inside of the elbow crease. The back has a zipper closing and princess line seams. The gown is full length at the front and at the back extends to a point for a 40cm train using an insert gore in the princess seam.
