World War One honor roll of former students of the Happy Valley State School No 376 who enlisted. The original honor roll no longer exists. There is a framed photograph of it in the current Happy Valley School building now used for community events. This honor roll would appear to be made before the end of WW1 as Ernest Alfred Yung died in September 1917 at Ypres. His brother George Alfred Yung returned who was also in the same battle returned to Australia. Honour rolls were also made to encourage more men to enlist. Margaret Young studied at Ballarat West Art School in 1894. This was one of Ballarat's Art schools. In 1907 they merged and became Ballarat Technical Art School (BTAS). Margaret became a teacher and taught for many years at BTAS, specialising in woodcarving. At the end of the First World War, Honour Boards were requested to be made to honour the men who had served. Ballarat was the main provider of these boards. Margaret Young was one of the people responsible for the carvings and specially mentioned for her work by the Caulfield School in Melbourne. On her resignation, Margaret moved to Adelaide. At the past students Reunion Celebrations in 1930, Margaret Young was to be the Guest of Honour. Unfortunately she was unable to attend due to ill health. Arthur E. Woodley donated the WW1 Military Carbide Signal and General Purpose Lamp to Frankston RSL. It was given to Arthur E. Woodley of Crib Point during the 1960s by Captain Ivan E. Layton MBE who was then the Executive Officer of Melbourne Legacy. During WW2 Ivan Layton was secretary to General Blamey. Ivan Layton died on 15th September, 1979. The carbide workings of the lamp were removed because of corrosion, otherwise it is almost complete.WW1 Military Carbide Signal and General Purpose Lamp which is round and made of brass. The lamp has a latched and hinged brass top. Brass and wood hinged handle with knurled access knob which is situated at the top of the lamp. In between the handle uprights is a round chimney flu which allows heat to escape. Approximately one third down from the top of the lamp there is a brass side handle. Immediately to the left of the handle is a rectangular curved view port with brass cover. Directly opposite the side handle is a convex glass window. Air vents are located at the bottom of the lamp. Inside the top half of the lamp is a chamber which contains the carbide lamp and perpendicular sleeves for the insertion of coloured glass panels. Silver plated (?) medical syringe used for injection purposes. This syringe is re-usable consisting of two main components; a cylindrical body with an attachment for fitting a needle at one end and a plunger which fits inside the body, the plunger is attached by screw thread to the other end of the syringe body. One face of the plunger is graduated in units with major markings indicating 5, 10, 15 and 20 units (perhaps ml?). The plunger has a screw thread along its length with a threaded stopper which can be pre-set to determine the volume of an injection. This syringe is contained in a purpose built silver plated (?) container with a hinging lid. A small cradle fits within the container to hold the syringe parts, two small cylindrical tubes (use unknown) are retained within the inside of the lid of the container by a swivelling clip.The container has the mark "BRITISH MADE" stamped into the side face nearest the retaining clip used to hold the lid closed, the mark "LONDON MADE" is stamped on the end of the plungerww11, world war 2, syringe, medical syringe, re usable syringe, world war 11

A plane table compass, sometimes referred to as a trough compass, used by surveyors and artillery crew to accurately establish magnetic north. The compass is precision machined of brass material with a long needle to ensure accuracy. The compass scale is marked with a centre zero (for magnetic north) and graduations indicating plus and minus five degrees. The compass is housed in a protective wooden case with a sliding lid. The lid has a brass slide which locks the compass needle during periods when the compass is not in use. This compass is the type used by an artillery unit of the Australian Military Forces during World War 2. This compass was manufactured by J. W. Handley P/L of Melbourne in 1943. Refer 00330 and 00330.2The side of the compass body is stamped: "J.W.H." with the letter "V" under a line, "SERIAL No 1082", MARK.II-D^D-1943". Binoculars (or field glasses) used by the Japanese Army during World War 2. Prismatic binocular design with a magnification of 6 x 24degrees. Each eye piece is rotated for fine adjustment of focal length. The tubular optics have a swivel action to adjust for eye width. Manufactured from brass with leathered grips and loops for attaching a carrying strap (included). Finished with a gloss black paint. These binoculars are complete with a brown leather carrying case which has a strap attached for carrying and a belt loop at the rear. Japanese Kanji characters and the chrysanthemum symbol are stamped on the top of the leather case.The binocular body is stamped with the following "MUSASHINO" "TOKYO" "BRIGHTSUN" "6 x 24" "No 8540"

Three examples of the ammunition charge clips used during World War 1 by the Australian and allied forces. These were preloaded with five live rounds of ammunition for the SMLE .303" rifle and were a convenient method of quickly replenishing the 10 round magazine. The clip is made of stamped spring steel with a matte black paint finish. These clips were preloaded with live ammunition and carried in the soldiers ammunition pouches. Whilst in the field the clips were salvaged and reloaded with fresh rounds when the opportunity was available, ie during a lull in battle, etc.Some markings present: two examples are stamped with "E" and "ll", the other is stamped with "K" and "ll".

United States Army standard issue infantry heavyweight webbing waist belt as worn in World War 1. This is an example of a 'trophy' belt, complete with a souvenir collection of metal insignia, badges and buttons which are attached to the belt. The belt has brass fittings however the original buckle is missing. There are a total of 83 various allied military insignia, badges and uniform buttons from the World War 1 era, 56 metal insignia and badges and 27 metal buttons which are mostly of Australian, New Zealand, Canadian or British origin. Belt manufactured by M W & S Limited of England in 1915.The reverse side of the belt is stamped "M W & S LTD., 1915" and has an "L" stamp and the Defence Department "/|\". The belt reverse also has the following name in black handwriting "A Paxino 9781 2211". Note A Paxino was associated with Frankston RSL Sub Branch for many years.
