The original South Wangaratta Primary School served the district for over 110 years and closed in December 1985 before moving to new premises. When the school closed in 1989 and with the demise of the South Wangaratta Hall due to flooding in the 1990's the Honour Board was wrapped in a blanket and stored in a shed for the best part of 10 years before being donated to the Wangaratta RSL for safekeeping and permanent display. Framed print produced by the gravure process. The print is in sepia tonings and depicts a military scene, presumably Turkish. The print is mounted with a brown wooden frame and glass front. Artist is Erol Yildirim, born 1959 in Bolu, Turkey. The print is number 51 of 100 and is dated 2015. This print was presented to the President and members of the Frankston RSL Sub Branch by the people of Turkey in early 2015 (just prior to the 100th Anniversary of the Gallipoli landing). The rear of the print has a brief biography of the artist and an explanation of the process used to produce the print attached. There is also a 'with compliments' slip from the Embassy of Turkey, Canberra attached.This print is marked "51/100" and has the artists name "Erol YILDIRIM 2015" -

John was an active member of the Wangaratta RSL Sub Branch, served on the Committee and received a 50 year certificate of service to the RSL. He passed away in January 2021.The Returned from Active Service Badge (RASB) is issued to Australian Defence Force personnel who have rendered warlike service. The badge enables individuals to display their involvement in warlike service while wearing civilian attire. It is worn when the wearing of service medals is not appropriate or possible. Brass badge features tri-services (with an anchor, wings and Rising Sun) surmounted by the crown, with a boomerang underneath with the text 'RETURNED FROM ACTIVE SERVICE' . Rare postcard showing view looking down Bridge Street with the Eltham Obelisk in situ in its original location. The Obelisk War Memorial was unveiled 3 August 1919. Subsequent to the unveiling provision was made of a stone retaining wall topped with a chain link and granite stone boundary. Along with the use of the name Obelisk Corner, the Bridge Street bridge was also known as Obelisk Bridge. The Obelisk was relocated to the fornt garden of the Eltham RSL sub-branch in the mid 1950s as a result of road widening and corner improvements. John Lachlan McIntyre was born at Beeac, Victoria in December 1890. He enlisted in the 1st AIF in July 1915. John fought on the Western Front, taking part in the battles of Fromelles and the 2nd Battle of the Somme. He was severely wounded at Fromelles and spent 12 months in hospital in England before returning to the front. John returned home in 1919 and was granted a soldier settlement block in Lara in 1937. He was a founding member of Lara RSL and is its longest serving member. John died in 1990. This letter was written by John and sent to his mother in 1918 on his journey through Belgium. The McIntyre family were early pioneers in the Lara district, and the brothers were founding members of the Lara RSL. This letter represents a significant link to the history of the town and sub-branch.A brown envelope addressed to Miss J McIntyre. Within the envelope is a pack of 12 illustrated souvenir post cards.
