Academic gowns distinguish between the University's senior office holders and our graduates. Federation University's Chancellor wears a blue robe that is trimmed with gold and features a gold embroidered frog at the shoulder and gold oak-leaf braid below the arm hole. The Deputy Chancellor and the Vice-Chancellor also wear blue robes, with gold trims and different designs inclorporating the gold oak-leaf braid, ord or tassels. The members of the university Council wear black robes with a sole of gold. Our graduates wear black robes, with either a black trancher cap or bonnet (for professional octorate) with stoles, linings or trims in the colour of their discipline. Ewan Ogilvy, former Melbourne Councillor and also of Community Services Victoria, Inner Urban Ministerial Advisory Committee and Uniting Church's Centre for Urban Research and Action (CURA), was instrumental in social justice approaches to town planning. He and CURA's Social Justice and the City Project funded Port Melbourne community groups protesting against the SCDC development in 1987. Copy of an article from the Bendigo Weekly 30/12/1999 Discover Bendigo by James Lerk titled John Emery and His Associates. John Emery was a tailor who had a business in Raywood. He moved to Bendigo where he set up his business as a tailor, draper and clothing mercer at the corner of Pall Mall and Mitchell Street. The shop was close to the Beehive Exchange, where he invested in the quartz mining companies. He took on a partner, T S Gibson, who was a clothier. Emery was involved in the Bendigo Bowling Club and St Paul's Church. Later he travelled and became a collector of curios. He donated sculptures to the Bendigo Art Gallery and loaned a number of paintings.
