In the 1960's, the RVIB approached engineer George Glover to produce equipment to allow blind people to shoot, based upon that made available at St Dunstan's Hospital in the UK. The rifle range opened in February 1966 at the rear of St Kilda Road with 30 members, and soon became involved in matches with sighted rifle clubs in the area. Photos from 'This Will Be the Place' Melbourne Legacy revue held at the Garrick Theatre on Friday 9th November 1934, 28th - 29th November 1934. The revue was conceived, written and composed by Legacy Club and performed by junior legatees. It related five chapters in Victoria's history from the first 100 years following the career of a family of pioneers from 1835 through various generations. These are some of the earliest photos in this archive, the girls names are unknown. See item number 00156 for the programme. The performance on 9 November 1934 was for the delegates of the Legacy Annual Conference that was being held in Melbourne at the time. A record of junior legatees being involved with a gala performance that was for a fundraising event. This framed photo usually hangs on the wall of the meeting room at the Invermay Hall, on the Invermay Reserve. The photograph features Invermay Cricket Club member Tom Reidy who donated his Cricket Club jacket to the Invermay Local History Assn. This jacket is now held in the ILHA Collection.The photograph is of historical and cultural significance. This is the only known copy of the photograph. The life buoy from the Largs Bay located above the bar helps dating the photograph to post 1957: Largs Bay was launched in 1921, as a mixed passenger/cargo ship. During WW2 she took part in a large number of convoys.nIt was scrapped in 1957 so had a service life of 36 years. Her sister ships were Jervis Bay, Moreton Bay, Esperance Bay and Hobsons Bay. She carried many passengers to Australia to start new lives after WW2.
