This piece of music has been produced during World War Two (1941) as a propaganda and fund-raising piece for the people of Alexandria in Egypt. It has both Greek and British backing with the headings on the cover in both languages. The music is a march and the title suggests that victory is on the way so the emotions are being stirred to keep up the morale. Egypt in World War Two was still under British influence and Alexandria is a port in Egypt at the mouth of the Nile River. In 1941 British battleships were based in the Alexandria harbor and two of them were disabled by Italian Navy divers. Hence it is not clear why it was the Hellenic (Greek) Red Cross raising funds for Alexandria through the sale of this music which was produced in that city by the Moharrem Press (founded 1938) and composed by Lena Bonfiliou, probably a Greek person. It is not known if this piece of music was bought in Australia or brought back to Australia by an Australian military person during World War Two.This is an interesting piece of music. Its connection to Warrnambool is not known but it is an example of the type of music produced during World War Two to help the war effort. This is a four page piece of music, ‘On the Road to Victory’ (a march) with a front cover, a blank end page and two pages of musical notation. The latter pages have black printing on white pages. The front cover has both Greek and English printing and a colour image of four British and Greek flags resting on a gun carriage with armaments underneath and indications of an explosion. There is a red stamp on the cover (Hellenic Red Cross). The pages are in good condition. In December 1954 the Parents Association was formed and met at the Sunshine State School. In February 1955 classes commenced with First and Second Form students accommodated in several local Halls. In May 1955 the students transferred to the new building. Over the years many children with overseas background attended the school. The school ceased to exist in its own right in 1991, and amalgamated with five other local secondary schools to form the multi campus Sunshine College in 1992. The former Sunshine High School buildings on Ballarat Road are now part of the Sunshine Campus of Victoria University. The book contains photographs and written articles from the school years as well as photographs of those attending the 1991 reunion. The history of the school is covered in this book under the headings: (1) Beginnings, (2) The Sixties, (3) The Seventies, (4) The Final Years, and (5) Vale. The major historical feature of this book is however the 17 pages of Staff and Student names, and the years they were at the school.This book is of historic and research significance. As well as providing some of the history of the school, the book has a comprehensive list of the staff and students that were at the school. Researchers will be able to determine the numbers of students commencing each year, the ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, and especially in the early years determine the spelling of the Surnames and Christian names of many students with overseas backgrounds. In the 1950's some Primary School teachers had the habit of changing students European Christian names to the English versions, and so the new names may have carried on to High School enrolment. For example some students named Ryszard were enrolled as Richard. Many students however were enrolled with correct ethnic spelling of their names. Although the list of students names appears to be comprehensive until about 1985, it appears to fail after that. It is known that some students names are missing in the final years.Front cover has a maroon coloured background with a pair of diagrammatic light blue hands reaching towards an orange and yellow source of light. The words SEEK LIGHT and SUNSHINE HIGH SCHOOL 1955-1991 are also on the front cover. The rear cover is plain white coloured. The book contains 68 pages plus the covers.Inside the front cover is an acknowledgement by John Scott to the work of the 1991 Reunion Committee for the production of the book, with eight people and their roles specifically named. The building with the white picket fence is the Beulah Tea Gardens opened by Eliza Hand c1904 at The Gap (now FiveWays). The building is still operating as a cafe. The Tourist Road does not yet exist. Old Coach Road comes into the picture from the right and the horse and cart is heading up Ridge Road. The elm trees can be seen on the left. The building up on the hill is the Mountjoy Guest House. ‘Mountjoy’ was built by the Paynter family in 1905. It had fourteen bedrooms, a dining room and sitting room, kitchen with a big wood burning range and verandahs on three sides. There were commanding views of the eastern ranges and the city to the west. Ellis Jeeves purchased ‘Mountjoy’ in 1908 and it soon became a popular tourist destination, the coach yards making it a centre of the district. ‘Mountjoy’ is a central feature of many photographs of Kalorama in the 1900s. Poster heading - 'Gold' - 'In the whole world, only 47 nuggets weighing over 30lbs Troy have been recorded. Of these 40 are from Australia. The region from Ballarat around to Bendigo yielded 32 of these large nuggets. This monument erected in 1897 by the Mines Department, is the only one ever erected to honour the discovery of a gold nugget. The 'Welcome Stranger' nugget was unearthed on 5th February, 1869, weighing 2316 ounces and it was sold for 9.553 pounds'. Demonstrates aspects of the Ballarat Tramways management system of Traffic Inspector rosters and that they worked a 38 week. Gives two different arrangements.Typed sheet, two carbon copies, giving two forms of rosters for Traffic Inspectors. Titled "Traffic Inspectors' Rotating Duty Rosters" and dated 29-8-1966, has rosters for four traffic inspectors - four week rotation and for three inspectors - three weeks rotation. Shows the hours of work (all 38 hour week), starting and finishing times, for each day of the week. Note under heading says "As from 17 May 1954". Set of four "Fares and Travel Guide" for years 1998, 2000 and two for 2001. Each has contact details, and maps of the tram and train systems of Melbourne. Details fares, Metcard products, buying and validating Metcards, concession cards, refunds, traveling with pets, surfboards, and general info. Produced by The Met, before Metlink. Layout varies between the four documents. The second one for 2001, has the heading "Cha-chink" with the map showing the various operating companies for the tram and train networks. Book - 92 pages plus card covers, a historical survey of the Sebastopol district. Originally written by E.D. Jenkins for the Borough of Sebastopol's centenary in 1964, reprinted with additional text by Lloyd Jenkins to recognise the 125th anniversary of the Borough covering the years 1965 to 1989. Book covers mining history, churches, the Borough Council, early days of the district and various points, eg cabmen, horse trams and electric trams, schools, the Mechanics Institute, various clubs, fire brigade, hotels, industries, and programme of events to celebrate the centenary. The second part of the book, covering the period is laid out in a chronological order with forward by Cr. Donald, the Mayor with many photographs. Centre page has a large map of the district showing the many mines, leads, roads and other historic locations. Tramway photos are horse tram No. 7, ESCo 17 at depot (all on file) and a photo showing a horse tram heading north along Albert St. with the shopping centre in the background - see image.
