Document details General rules such as hours of duty, fire, accidents behaviour; Depot Operation - Safety Rules detailing many procedural rules about work safety on trams. Photocopy of the "General Electric Company Type ML Governor for Motor-Driven Air Compressors" manual or pamphlet, dated Jan. 1914, Bulletin No. 44590. Details the operation of the ML type air compressor governor which is fitted to a number of the BTM tramcars. Three pages, with number T26M in the top left hand corner. A further three pages, dated April 1917, Bulletin No. 54533, numbered T60M, gives a sectional view of the governor, parts diagram and parts listing. Photocopy provided by C. Forty Eight page book stapled with a fold out track map at rear contained within a glued light card cover. Printed on gloss paper with many black and white photos. Book titled "Melbourne's Tramways in 1974" written by David R. Keenan. Details the operation of the Melbourne Tramway system prior to the introduction of the then new Z class trams, in the final decade of the MMTB, its operations, track, training, management, power supplies, tickets and other operational systems. Includes notes on services, tramcar fleet allocation, depots, fare sections and running times. Has introduction by author looking at Melbourne compared to other tramway systems around the world at the time and acknowledgements. Two copies held. Newspaper clipping contained within Reg. Item 2488, page 29, from The Courier, Fri. 24 June 1937 1937, titled "Story of Ballarat's Horse Trams", 1887 to 1913. Report of a paper presented to the Ballarat Historical Society by Inspector H. P. James at the Annual meeting of the Society. Comprises four columns of text, pasted into the book titled "Of Other Days". General image of page 27 - see image btm2493i.jpg. Provides introductory remarks, seating accommodation, brakes, weather shields (windscreens), fare boxes, services, Sebastopol trams, operations, fares, wages and conditions, industrial problems and events of interest. Has hand written notes in ink or pencil on the operation of tram 24 (the first air-braked car), bands, showgrounds and the use of conductors from Bendigo at the start of the operations. Newspaper, "Lament and Reverie on Passing of Melbourne's Cable Trams", "Cable Trams .... Clang Into History", 1940
Newspaper clippings contained within Reg. Item 2526, page 11 and 12. Cutting on page 11 titled "Lament and Reverie on Passing of Melbourne's Cable Trams", written "By a Former Traveller", with date of 26-10-1940 in blue pence. Notes that the person was glad not to know of the last run of the Melbourne cable trams, the previous Saturday. Laments their passing, rides, crews, St. Kilda Road, the tramcars and the services provided. At the base of the cutting has a photograph of cable trailer No. 1 being off loaded in Lonsdale St. to go into the Museum. Cutting on page 12, titled "Cable Trams .... Clang Into History" written by Hugh Murphy. Appears to have been written prior to their withdrawal in Melbourne but noting their closure at the end of the year. Notes the construction, the costs, Mr. F.B. Clapp, G. S. Duncan, operations, the various routes, the services and the gradual deterioration of the track. Has the Melbourne Punch cartoon of 10/12/1885, titled "Bail Up". Cuttings have been cut out from a sheet and pasted into the book.
