While many recruits could already drive when they joined 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles it took many hours of instruction and training before they were licenced to drive heavier, more complex army vehicles both on and off road and under combat conditions. Members of the Women’s Royal Australian Army Corps (WRAAC) were posted to Army Reserve units in the 1980s and 1990s. They were rarely posted to Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs) but were invaluable in the A1 Echelon driving fuel, ammunition, ration and water supply vehicles. Sonia PAYES (1956- ) Born Melbourne, Victoria Sonia Page is a conceptually-based artist Australian artist working with photography, multi-media, animation and sculpture. She continually pushes the boundaries between photography, sculptural work and new media, with a strong environmental narrative permeating her work. A large photographic tryptich depicting the studio of prominent Australian artist Jeffrey Smart. Sonia Payes art practice is grounded in her training as a photographer. In 2005 Sonia Payes started a large project involving photographing artist's portraits, art works and surrounds. Depicting the idiosyncratic, and often private, lives of artists the project resulted in a visual book titled ‘Untitled. Bob (Herman) Hymans (a former member of the Royal Netherlands Navy) was born in Bloemendaal, Holland on 30th September 1922. During World War II he fought against the Japanese in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) and was imprisoned in Changi and on the Burma Railway. After gaining qualifications as a Ski Instructor, Bob arrived in Falls Creek in July 1950. Working as an Instructor and Supervisor at Bogong Lodge, Bob decided his future was in accommodation. He was successful in negotiating an indenture for land from the State Electricity Commission (SEC). It took Bob two years to build his Grand Coeur Chalet but, tragically, it was burned down in August 1961. Bob also built the first Chairlift in Australia. This was a single chairlift and the structure was built from wooden electricity poles. He was constantly full of new ideas and proposals for the village. Bob Hymans die on 7th July 2007. This Collection of documents and letters tells the story of Bob's endeavours to develop Falls Creek into the ski village it is today.This item is significant because it documents the role played by the State Electricity Commission in the Falls Creek Tourist Area.A circular from the State Electricity Commission notifying residents that the functions of the gatehouse on the Bogong Road were to be transferred to the Commission's Information Centre which had been established on the Kiewa Valley Highway adjoining the Commission's Workshops at the entrance to Mt. Beauty. First croquet committee in Orbost started up in 1919. (ref : The Whos' Who of Orbost Settlers - Mary Gilbert). Often croquet lawns were in private gardens eg. at Connort (now Moogji)..This shield is part of the history of the Orbost Croquet Club. In the museum, there is also an old copy of the rules of Croquet, a mallet and a photo of the first committee.A wooden shield.
