On 4th October 2014 Nillumbik Shire Council launched a publication titled ‘Nillumbik Tales - Voices of our Elders’, which is a collection of colourful and personal snapshots of our local community. The unique Nillumbik based stories have been written by a variety of authors, including some who are members of our Society. In collating and publishing this historically important collection Nillumbik Shire Council has documented many aspects of our area and of the people who contributed to our community. The original postcard stated on the rear that the other 2 were Ray Forrester from Gippsland seated and Bob Exon from down Ravenswood way. Paramount Concrete Works tower on the site of Burnbank 1 – Cottage of Henri and Ann nee Dowling Myers side of road east of Myers Gully the junction of Reserve Rd. now known as Ryans Creek. Built c 1870. it remained in the family until a demolition order was placed on it in 1969 when vacated by Martha wife of Frederick 4th son of Ann and Henry. Her new house was built in McKenzie St on the south side near the corner of Smith St. Paramount Concrete established 1972, changed to Readmix Farley in 1983Paramount concrete with cranemisc.

Participants would meet at Legacy House and make their way to a destination, sometimes by bus, or train or even ferry in the case of trips to Williamstown. Walks were generally on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month. The sessions were a fun way to exercise and enjoy the company of others. The events were advertised in the Answer and anyone was welcome to join. Legacy organises outings and events for the widows to participate in. Names are not known. The photographic developers were used to develop plates, films and lantern slides. They had to be mixed as per instructions on the bottles and boxes. These may have been used by an individual or by a local school or organisation.Wilma Davies a long term resident of the Kiewa Valley donated this photographic equipment.5 yellow with black print cardboard boxes with 2 bottles (pairs) in each. The medallion is a 1951 Commemorative being 100 years of Government and discovery of gold in Victoria. The winner K.M. Mcleod is believed to be Kenneth Meadowbank McCleod. He enlisted initially in 1915 but was discharged medically unfit in 1916, re enlisted in 1917 No 3840 and served in the 4th LH Regt, discharged from the AIF on 6.12.1919. Refer Cat No 1805P. There were two Billiard Tables in the Soldiers Memorial Institute in what was called the Billiard room. This was a source of income for the Bendigo Branch for some 70 years. One table was sold in 1967 as usage had declined and the last one was sold in 1994..1) Medallion circular bronze, front depicts 2 gold miners, oround outside is text, centre is engraved with details of who was presented with the item. Donald John BURNET No 2130 enlisted in the AIF in 4th reinforcements 60th Batt on 19.5.1916 age 18 years. Embark for England 1.8.1916, embark for France 11.11.1916. He is then returned to England with under age personnel for some reason on 27.12.1916 and proceeds to get himself in trouble. Finally embarks for France on 19.4.1917 and in trouble 2 days later but rejoins his unit on 25.4.1917, hospital 14.6.1917 with a Sprained right Ankle, rejoin unit 21.6.1917, hospital 7.8.1917 with Diptheria and then gets Tonsilitis, rejoin unit 20.9.1917 and is KIA 5 days later on 25.9.1917. Trooper M Spinelli of VMR Squadron 4th/19th Prince of Wales's Light Horse volunteered for full-time duty in 1999 and served with 2nd/14th Light Horse (Queensland Mounted Infantry) in East Timor as part of INTERFET. The International Force East Timor (INTERFET) was a multinational non-United Nations peacemaking task force, organised and led by Australia in accordance with United Nations resolutions to address the humanitarian and security crisis that took place in East Timor from 1999–2000 until the arrival of UN peacekeepers. James Northcott (1836-1904) was born in Devonshire, England. He joined the British Navy as a youth and served in the Crimean War. He came to Australia for the gold rush, and then briefly went to the New Zealand rush before returning to Australia in 1858. In 1867 he married Annie Lansell, sister of George Lansell. James became general manager of George's mines. Northcott's Quadrille Band was playing for dances in 1865 and there are reports of Northcott's Brass Band performing in 1867. John Brown (Head Teacher 1889-1906), assistant Ellen Sweeney and 53 schoolgirls, Eltham State School No. 209, 1905 Ina Falkiner is top row 4th from left Gertrude Falkiner is bottom row seated 4th from left. John Brown died 23 Sept 1906 after a short severe illness at age 55 and is buried in Box Hill Cemetery (Evelyn Observer 28 Sep 1906 p2).
