The organisation enabled benefits to be paid to tramway employees, on a subscription basis (pre Medicare etc), and set up various funds and a hospital - Vimy House in Kew. Light grey card folder manufactured by the Roneo Printing Works of Rumford England with the file title "Fire Switches, glued to the top of the folder on the inside back cover. Contains many memos from the MMTB Traffic Managers, Depot Managers about the arrangements for the visit of the Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of York in April 1927. Also contains memo re cable tram arrangements for this event from Port Melbourne depot, arrangements for Christmas holidays and other holidays from about 1924 to 1944, including a map of the procession and printed programs by the Government Printer. Documents either typed or hand written. Bound Document, two large ruled grey folded sheets with containing various schedules and letters typed onto foolscap (folio) or quarto sheets. Titled "Agreement Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board with A.N. Colquhoun "signed and sealed on 18th May 1945. Bound on left hand side with green ribbon. Gave Archibald Norman Colquhoun the right to advertising on the inside of tramcars and buses and on the rear of tickets for five years. Gave details of the contract, minimum payments, rebates and conditions of the contract. Schedule A - two pages - space available in tramcars Schedule B - two pages - buses ditto Schedule C - passenger check tickets / annum - some 350million - one page Schedule D - actual tendered document, 15/4/1948 - one page Schedule E - the Specification for the tender - five pages Schedule F - Letter signed by A.N. Set of 14 black and white photographs of the use of former sleeper transport car, W2 485 - see page 80 of Destination City 5th Edition for more details of the tram. Tram body being used to train emergency staff how to recover a tramcar that had been tipped over onto its side. DC5, notes it was stored at Preston workshops and later "used an instruction car to train emergency crews in the righting of the overturned trams. It was overturned several times in this role." Note: - would have been at the time, probably the only way to do this, as mobile cranes were only just starting to be developed. Truck is an AEC built Matador truck. Possibly these photos who the first time used as such, as one of the life guards was being cut off in the photos. 1 - tram on its side 2 - ditto - showing underside of tram 3 - pulling one of the bogies clear. 4 - cutting away a lifeguard 5 - pulling the other bogie clear 6 - setting up the chains to recover the tram - note the sleepers it is lying on. 7 - ditto 8 - starting to lift the tramcar 9 - rolling the tramcar upright 10 - tram upright and being jacked up to roll the bogies back under 11 - pushing a bogie under 12 - ditto 13 - as for 9 14 - as for 10 15 - similar to 9trams, tramways, training, emergency, accidents, recovery, mmtb, preston workshops, tram 485, w2 class, aec, r10 vehicle, works cars -

The article and photo reports on the poor condition of the Victorian Railways operated St Kilda to Brighton tram line in St Kilda St, Brighton. This section of line closed during 1957. The Council reported that it had briefed a QC about the matter. The Railways were responsible for road maintenance and track maintenance. The service was operated by the Eastern Suburbs Omnibus Service using some half-cab buses. The bus is a Leyland OPS4 built in 1950 and subsequently sold to Eastern Suburbs Omnibus service in 1957. Some are finished with a plastic laminate finish on either one or both sides. Show the major cross streets, parks, schools, other tram routes, major stop numbers, and railway lines. Was to be filled out prior to the commencement of journey and placed in the clip provided. Forty Eight page, side staple book within blue Rexene covers. Titled "Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways /Electric System /Instructions to Drivers in Electric Car Operation" Dated 1966. Printed by Regent Press Pty Ltd, 457 Plenty Road, Preston. Provides in a Q & A format, instructions to drivers in electric car operation, photos of various types of controllers, an A.B.C. for tramways drivers - "always" points to remember and has a reference index. Copy 1 - has telephone numbers of Training School and specific pointers re Regulations 106 and 107 and some of the Q&A have been circled in blue. This copy was imaged. The May 1974 instructions of "Tram car Braking on Greasy Rails", has adhesive tape remnants. Copy 2 - 1/5/1975 instructions loose inside the book. Copy 3 - added 29/5/2014 from the collection of R. Wearne. Copy 4 - added 15-6-2015 - from Ron Scholten donation of 11-4-2015. Copy 5 - added 14-12-2015 from donation of Norm Cross 11-10-2009. Had the instructions for Tram car braking on Greasy Rails appended inside front cover - loose, with adhesive tape remnants. Relocated to Reg Item 2913.copy 3 has 7 numbers in ink inside the front cover, a number of questions in the book have been circled., copy 4 - has numerous changes to issue on page 1, ink crosses on specific questions., copy 5 - has "K.T. Grey cardboard with light grey cloth end binding covered book, 124 pages "MMTB Electric Tramways and Motor Omnibuses Sections and Fares", dated July 1976. Inside the book - see image 80i4, was a heavy sheet of cardboard headed "Fares Charges from 4/7/76" giving the adult and child fares for each section of travel. Details the various section stages and fares for each tram and bus route, General instructions, concession fares and has photos or drawings of the various special tickets, eg passes or prepaid tickets. Book consists of eight sections, bound with cloth binding on the outside covering internal staples. Second copy added 27-12-2013 ex AETA. Framed, glazed, black and white photograph of the intersection of Flinders and Swanston St Melbourne, looking towards Flinders St railway station. Timber frame, painted brown and gold, with brown paper lining on rear. Has brown string stapled at rear on both sides for hanging. In the central bottom of the rear is "Glen Waverley Picture Framing, sticker, 698 High St Road, Glen Waverley with a 7 digit phone number. Photo c1926?? features a very busy intersection cable trams (No. 17 west bound in Flinders, tram 160 north bound in Swanston, two W class trams, other cable trams, many motor cars, horse drawn vehicles, cyclist and pedestrians. Note the standing zone in Flinders St. In photo are Young and Jacksons Hotel, Bacchus Marsh Concentrated Milk table cream, and numerous signs on the railway station.
