A United States mail pilot clambers out of the cockpit as ground crew unload his cargo. In this authentically detailed scene of the airmails early years by French aviation artist Paul Lengell'e a postal clerk checks the mailbags and packages against a manifest before they are loaded into the waiting truck. -

Yields information about the appearance and use of the Ballarat Railway Station level crossing by trams prior to closure.Set of six black and white photographs of trams at the railway level crossing, Ballarat, Lydiard St North featuring the railway station, gates and signals, Reeds Coffee Palace and the Provincial Hotel. .1 - 28 heading south, with an R class and a K class locomotive in the view. .2 - 11, heading north - taken during the 1950's. .3 - 17 parked right up to the gates while K184 shunts at the station. .4 - single trucker (number obscured) - most likely 17 giving the passengers in the previous photo. .5 - Photo with two single truckers in the view and the gates being closed after the tram has passed. .6 - 11, at the gates with a bogie tram behind. 1987: 7 November. “Washing Day in the 1800s” Our float with its colonial washing day theme won the trophy for the best display. Bruce Ness arranged items from the Society's collection on his truck. Joh Ebeli and Russell Yeoman set up further items on the trailer loaned by Denis McKay. An important part of the event was the members who came along in their “old gear” to complete the picture. Postcard, "Charing Cross & View Point Bendigo", 1903
The photo shows three Bendigo California Combination single truck cars at Charing Cross, looking southwest with the Alexandria Fountain in the centre. Trams 5 and 14 are in the view along with another behind them. The Bendigo electric tram system commenced operations in 1903 and given the appearance of the roadways and tram tracks, the photo was taken soon after opening. In the view are the View Point Hotel, signs for Moran Cato, Coperative Distribution, W J Jackson Tailor, The Age and several horse-drawn cabs. Photo shows Brill 22E Maximum Traction bogie or truck - Geelong tramcar, has the SEC logo on the side of the tramcar in the view. One of a set of photos was taken between 15/2/1956 and 3/3/1956 when services operated only between Belmont and North before the final closure of the Belmont route on 25/31956 and that bogie tram 31 is not shown on the board, having gone to Ballarat on 15/2/1956 - see item 5554. Archive - Vertical file, Armitstead family
The Armitstead family's first woodyard in Surrey Hills was located in Croydon Road but later they moved to 153-157 Union Road, Surrey Hills. The business delivered timber and briquettes for heating to homes in the local area but also blocks of ice in the days before refrigerators were a usual household appliance. The timber was unloaded from railway trucks at a siding at Surrey Hills station; some came from the Armitstead's property of 130 acres of timbered land near Killara. They also sold mallee roots and briquettes.A vertical file containing the following documents: 1. Land Victoria map of Surrey Hills including Union Road from Bedford Street to Montrose Street, showing location of woodyard (undated) (1 A3 page). 2. Single truck (4 wheel) straight sill combination tramcar with open ends, closed centre saloon, longitudinal seats. Centre section originally an 1892 Sydney cable car trailer ( No. 18 - North Sydney).
