Set of 14 black and white photographs of the use of former sleeper transport car, W2 485 - see page 80 of Destination City 5th Edition for more details of the tram. Tram body being used to train emergency staff how to recover a tramcar that had been tipped over onto its side. DC5, notes it was stored at Preston workshops and later "used an instruction car to train emergency crews in the righting of the overturned trams. It was overturned several times in this role." Note: - would have been at the time, probably the only way to do this, as mobile cranes were only just starting to be developed. Truck is an AEC built Matador truck. .1 - Postcard - full colour with serrated edge - Nu-color-Vue - co produced with the TMSV - of the A. E. Twentyman cable set at his Northcote home. The rear is printed in brown ink - card number NCV 234, with place for stamp. gives detail of the tram, the photograph location, the TMSV logo and the Nucolorvue on the left hand side and that photo is courtesy of Wrappings Pty Ltd. .2 - similar photo but with Alf's second saloon tram in the view and details but with card number NCV 905 and photo credited to A. E. Twentyman. .3 - same photo as .1, but glued into a Nu-color-Vue produced greeting card with a cut out for the caption on the rear of the card - has the Wrappings Pty Ltd. photograph credit with raised gold printing. Coin - Fare Token/s, Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board (MMTB), 1920's
Set of two fare tokens - 1 1/2d - 22mm diameter - dark brown celluloid - with words "Melbourne & Metropolitan" on circumference and "Tramways Board" in centre of token. On reverse in large font "1 1/2" and a small font "D" at to the right - indicating token had a value of one and a half pence. Both sides have a edge lining border about 1mm from the outer edge. Record updated following a query and being advised of an article in The Argus 1-4-1924 - see Reg Item 3359 for a copy. Item probably dates from c1920, phased out 1924. Set of 7 drawings for the development of the concept and layout of the Hawthorn Tramways Trust depot by the Architect Leonard J Flannagan, of Molesworth Chambers, 450 Chancery Lane, Melbourne. Item numbers match with the relevant image. .1 - Photocopy of a memo on the Architect's letterhead of cost estimates of three different options - dated 3/12/1914. Has a "School of Architecture" on the bottom right hand corner of the sheet and a sticker "WD GAR.4-4" giving a reference document number. Printed on an A4 sheet. .2 - Copy print of a pencil drawing - "Hawthorn Tramways Trust - Sketch Proposed Car Barn - Original Design Scheme No. 1". Reference Number in the bottom left hand corner "WD GAR.4-1". .3 - ditto showing floor plans with title "Alternative Plan No. 1" - Reference Number "WD GAR 4-6". .4 - ditto, with notes about items to be added in bottom right hand corner - Reference Number "WD GAR 4-6". .5 - as for .2 - "Amended design scheme No. 2" - Reference Number "WD GAR 4-5" .6 - Contract drawing - showing the elevation of the depot to Wallen and Power Streets - drawing No. 72, has both the names of the architect and the engineer in the bottom left hand corner. Ticket - printed on dark green paper with red strip on the right hand side for the Victorian Railways, St Kilda Brighton Electric Street Railway. Preprinted ticket, good for one journey during Feb. 1922 only - ticket number 048 on left hand side and 059 and 060 on right hand side. Good for Sections 1 to 4, between St Kilda and Park St. Sheet has been perforated vertically and horizontally. Would appear that these were pre-purchased, torn off horizontally by the passenger, handed to the conductor who would tear it in half (vertically) and return one half to the passenger.
