The oldest slides date from 1950 when Robin and Patricia travelled to Europe on Robin’s Robert Haddon Travelling Scholarship.” In 1948 Robin Boyd was awarded ‘joint first place’ in the Robert Haddon competition for his design of Mildura art gallery. The scholarship helped fund their first overseas trip. Robin and Patricia were passengers on the Greek ship “Cyrenia” departing in May 1950, passing through the Suez Canal and landing in Genoa five weeks later. Photo of Ballarat tram 27, southbound at Grey St. loop waiting to cross a City bound tram car. Has one male passenger waiting to board the inbound tram and a conductor (in SEC hat) waiting to board the tram and act as the conductor back into the City. Trams between Bell St. and Sebastopol during the day, were driver only. Conductors changed trams at Bell St. or wherever they crossed one another on the single track. Tram has destination of "Sebastopol", and advertisements for "Twin Lakes" and Whitehorse whiskey. Note long grass on the left hand side of the photo. For many years Legacy was invited to bring junior legatees to Government House for for an enjoyable Legacy Christmas party. There were entertainers, carousels and often a train ride.
