Two painted sections of white bakelite sheet - each with one number, bolted onto a metal bracket with a circular metal bracket and bolts to go around a pole. Functional object - Digital Memory module, KDM, "97100183", c1995
These items were used by tram and bus drivers as part of the Metcard machine management system. The PM (portable memory) key was issued to each driver. At the start of a shift, the driver would put it into a cream-coloured terminal at the sign-on point (starter's office in the depot) and transfer their shift information onto the key. Once the driver reached the vehicle, they put the key into the black-coloured terminal (tram driver's keypad - TDKP or bus driver's keypad) to upload the shift data to the vehicle. See item 2582 for more details and other examples.Demonstrates an item used on buses and trams for management of the Metcard Machines and ticketting issue.Digital Memory module, or Portable Memory Key, equivalent in type to a USB stick, black plastic with a sliding mechanism to protect 8 copper contact strips with a digital memory area at one end. Stamped into the memory area part number "97100188. On the reverse side is a lable giving details of the owner, part number, and serial number and that it is subject to a charge in favour of the National Australia Bank. Has as key type appearance. Photograph - Geelong Tramway Trailers 2 and 3
The remaining trailers 2 and 3 (after Nos 1 and 4 had been motorised) and a line of Duncan & Fraser tramcars in the depot. The broken paving and heaps of sand suggest that the tram shed is being extended to add roads 3 and 4 to the west. That would date the photo as 1914. Regattas were held on the Barwon River at the terminus of the South tramline which was linked directly to the other suburban destinations, Newtown and West Geelong. The standard fare was 3d cash or, for some shorter "sectional" journeys, pre-paid 2d tickets. Postcard, "Charing Cross & View Point Bendigo", 1903
The photo shows three Bendigo California Combination single truck cars at Charing Cross, looking southwest with the Alexandria Fountain in the centre. Trams 5 and 14 are in the view along with another behind them. The Bendigo electric tram system commenced operations in 1903 and given the appearance of the roadways and tram tracks, the photo was taken soon after opening. In the view are the View Point Hotel, signs for Moran Cato, Coperative Distribution, W J Jackson Tailor, The Age and several horse-drawn cabs. First company motor lorry with "ELECTRIC SUPPLY" painted on the side (but with the appearance of a horse drawn buggy). Location is outside the main entrance of the Melbourne Electric Supply Co Ltd, as displayed to the right of the door. The sign on the left may be ELECTRICITY SUPPLY/TRAMWAYS DEPARTMENT. Location of the entrance is in Yarra St, immediately south of the Corio Tce. intersection, and better shown in plate 9201. Motor registration is 4590, probably 1910.
