Sign, State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV), "Pay as you Enter", 1960's
Demonstrates how the SEC used painted signs to advise passengers about fare payment arrangements.Folded metal and painted "Pay as you Enter" sign used on Ballarat single truckers until 1971. Black lettering on a yellow front with a Yellow back. Sign has been manufactured to fit the timber holders that were provided on each side of each door. Gives details of where purchased from , date of purchase, type, body builder, seating capacity, overall length, overall height, overall width, condition of tram, trolley base, Lightning arrester, controller make and type, Truck Maker and type, type of truck, axle type, wheel base, axle diameter, motors type and maker, Motor horsepower, Armature bearings, suspension bearings, gear teeth, Air compressor make and type, Brake Valves make and type, Governor make and type, Weight in tons and details of advertising space in racks. At base has typed (original) list of trams of the two types, single truckers and bogie trams. List of trams includes the scrubber and No. 20 which was scrapped prior to system closure. Globe Hotel, High St Charlton, established 1874 by John Walsh. This is the third building on the site. The first was destroyed by fire and rebuilt. It was then rebuilt as a two-storey hotel in 1940. It closed as a hotel in the early 1970's and became offices and flats. The Charlton Gentlemen's Club on the RH side was established in 1900. Photo is part of a series of streetscapes taken in 1987 for the Charlton Shire.Colour photograph of two storey red brick building. Significance is reduced by the quality of the photocopy but gives the source details.Photocopy of a photograph and article that appeared in The Courier, Ballarat newspaper of 22/1/1963 tram No. 27 that had collided with a truck at corner of Drummond Nth and Mair St the previous Saturday.
