Timetable Notice giving details of temporary changes to service as part of the COVID 19 response where route 12 diverted by La Trobe St, and thus provided a service along Spencer St. Route 30 was suspended. Route 11A was introduced between Docklands and St Vincent's Plaza. htd4777i1.pdf shows a timetable alteration, reduction of services after 8pm, introduction of the 8pm to 5am curfew and stage four restrictions that were to apply (hopefully) for a six week period. Set of 23 digital timetables generally applicable from 10-11-2019 and two timetables for route 11 and12 applicable from 13 July. This change was a bit confusing at the time. Newspaper clipping, photocopied on an A4 sheet from an unknown paper - possibly early 1950's and The Sun about the retirement of Arthur Hill, as the tramway shunter at Elizabeth St. First with cable trams, then electric trams, assisting with poles to do quick turn-arounds. Titled "These 6 retired yesterday - after 240 years on job" Has a photo of him in uniform cap badge Number 1975. Noelle Jones (30/7) advised by email: It's not in Trove, so it either came from the Sun, which is not digitised, or it is after the mid 1950s (which is the most recent digitisation of the other major papers). Les Hill was active in the 1950s as a bowler for South Melbourne (from Trove). So the clipping would have to be 1950s at the earliest." Craig Tooke, formally of Yarra Trams substations advised 12/8/2020 by email to Warren Doubleday. "An interesting photo. I don’t know who the person in the photo is. More than likely the bulb in from an industrial installation such as mine etc. and not tram or train. The reason is that only Melbourne trams has Hackbridge Hewittic rectifiers that were used for traction. There was three sets of bulbs installed at West Brunswick, Deepdene and Preston. West Brunswick is definitely still in existence and probably Deepdene is still in existence as the old substation was abandoned intact and just left intact. Preston of course has gone and was removed as part of the work done at PWS. Another clue is the number 500/6 which means it was from a 500 kW – 6 bulb unit. The traction units were all in multiples of 150 kW per bulb i.e. the tramway ones were 600 kW rated. The number "40246" is the bulb serial number. Each bulb manufactured had an individual serial number. Interesting the bulbs at Brisbane Tram Museum have the following serial numbers to the ones that were at Essendon tram sub. Report - six sheets, were paper clipped together, three foolscap (marked 4370A) and two quarto sheets (marked 4370C) titled "Lives of North Melbourne City Section ropes during 1917-18", regarding a claim made through Dalgety and Company (3/1/19 and 6/1/1919) for damage on a section of rope that was on a ship that was sunk by enemy action. Has a three page report on the cable life and insurance claim made by the Tramway Board in 1918, looking at the life of the cable compared to previous ropes. Quite a detailed study made and costs incurred.
