On 19 November 1941, HMAS Sydney was involved in a mutually destructive engagement with the German auxiliary cruiser Kormoran, and was lost with all hands (645) aboard.This object was handmade to house a Life Buoy from HMAS Sydney II which was lost at sea with all hands on board in 1941. The Life Buoy made from kapok ceased to be used by the RAN in the early 1950's. It was found in poor condition discarded in a bin at Spectacle Island in Sydney and later restored.Long narrow timber board mounted with timber crest consisting of crown and red anchor on white background within gold coloured circled rope.SYDNEY Gold coloured plaque - Donated by Peter L CARDWELL Ex HMAS SYDNEY (3) 2002life buoy, hmas sydney -

Gift from the Government to the children of Victoria on the occasion of the 1954 Royal Visit This medal was issued for schools to commemorate the visit of the Queen visited to Victoria from 24 February to 9 March 1954. The first reigning monarch to tour Australia, she arrived in Sydney with her husband the Duke of Edinburgh on 3 February 1954 and departed the country from Fremantle on 1 April. In 1954 Queen Elizabeth II became the first reigning monarch to tour Australia. She arrived in Sydney with her husband the Duke of Edinburgh on 3 February 1954 and departed the country from Fremantle on 1 April. The visit was tremendously popular. The Queen was the first royal to tour Australia in twenty years. These clipping belonged to Wilhelm Eckels who was a wool buyer in Sydney when war broke out. He was interned in camp 1.Blue back and side A4 folder with clear front containing plastic sleeves which house newspaper clippings as listed below.
