Tony IRVING (1939- ) Born England Arrived Australia 1942 Tony Irvings work is a snapshot of urban life. In the 1970s, he won the prestigious National Gallery of Victoria's John McCaughey Acquisitive Prize. Subsequently the wooden structure was demolished and a new arbour was built with funds provided by the Friends of Burnley Gardens. Donated by Jess White (Friends of the Elms). Boys scramble over a 1920's style car, in the front gardens of RVIB St Kilda Road. One sits on the roof and another on the bonnet, both reaching to feel the windscreen wipers. Three boys are at the front, touching the engine, whilst two more touch the front of the tyre and another boy touches the rear of the tyre.
