The plans are presented in a keepsake folder. They show marks of sections copied and assembled together. Overall, the plans are similar to those drawn by Mr P Webb to the order of the Loch Ard Shipwreck Centenary through Mr P Williams, the organizer of the Centenary competition. “The details were based on all available information which resulted in considerable historical research…and received favourable comment from model makers because of their attention to detail…In excess of 650 sets of plans were sold before entries closed…Many plans were probably purchased by collectors and interested persons for historical reference. An illustrated historical story sheet…was prepared and enclosed with the plans…” (‘Loch Ard Shipwreck Centenary 1878-1978 Report’, November 1978). An example of the attention to historical detail on the plans is the inclusion of the following useful information about the original vessel … Tonnage….1,693 G.R.T., 1,624 N.R.T. The plans provide historical and technological context to artefacts from the shipwreck, increasing understanding and appreciation of those objects. Flagstaff Hill’s collection of artefacts from LOCH ARD is significant for being one of the largest collections of artefacts from this shipwreck in Victoria. It is significant for its association with the shipwreck, which is on the Victorian Heritage Register (VHR S417). The collection is significant because of the relationship between the objects, as together they have a high potential to interpret the story of the LOCH ARD. The LOCH ARD collection is archaeologically significant as the remains of a large international passenger and cargo ship. The LOCH ARD collection is historically significant for representing aspects of Victoria’s shipping history and its potential to interpret sub-theme 1.5 of Victoria’s Framework of Historical Themes (living with natural processes). The collection is also historically significant for its association with the LOCH ARD, which was one of the worst and best known shipwrecks in Victoria’s history.Model ship plans for building the LOCH ARD. The Fred Rochow Railways Collection incorporates photos related to the operation of the Wodonga Railway Station including different types of trains and railways staff C. 1930 – 1990. It was donated to the Wodonga Historical Society by Fred Rochow, a railwayman who spent many years based in Wodonga. He joined the Victorian Railways on 17th June l947 and retired in 1988. For some time, he was a member of the Australian Federated Union of Locomotive Enginemen and served a term as a member of the Trades Hall Council. He had an extensive knowledge of the struggles that took place to achieve better conditions for railway workers. Fred worked for many years as a fireman and then worked his way up the ranks to driver, experiencing many changes from the days of steam locomotives through to diesel trains, locomotives and even the modern XPT train. He worked throughout Victoria at different stages of his career, with his final working years focused on the northeast of Victoria and the Albury to Melbourne line. After his retirement, Fred continued to share his love of steam miniature trains with the community.This collection has local and statewide significance as it captures images of trains, locomotives and personnel who operated the railway services in Wodonga and throughout Northeast Victoria. The railways played a critical role in opening up Victoria and connecting Australia for trade, business, social communication and transport.This locomotive was built in 1878 by Beyer Peacock & Co, Manchester, England. It arrived in Sydney on August 19, 1878 and began its working life as No 120 of C[79] class on the southern and western lines of NSW in September that year. On 24 May 1914, when the new branch line to Canberra was completed, the locomotive unofficially opened the track by pulling the first train to the construction site of the national capital. The engine was given the new number 1210 in the 1923 re-classification of NSW engines. Locomotive 1210 continued in use until 1958 when it was finally withdrawn from service. The NSW Steam Tram and Preservation Society appealed to the National Capital Development Commission (NCDC) and the NSW Railways to assist in the locomotive's preservation. As a result of the Society's appeal the locomotive was purchased by the NCDC for 800 pounds. The locomotive was relocated to the Canberra Railway Museum in 1984. It was restored with funds received from the Australian Bicentennial Authority. It was a requirement of the Bicentennial Authority Grant that the engine be operational. The locomotive was re-commissioned by the Member for Canberra, the Hon Ros Kelly, on 19 September 1988. As part of the Australian Bicentennial celebrations Locomotive 1210 attended the AusSteam '88 event in Melbourne, travelling south in the company with Locomotive 3112. These photographs of a presentation to a charity organisation were taken in the grounds of Fortuna Villa, Army Survey Regiment in 1984. SPR Tracy (Parker) Ash was the unit’s Miss Golden North section entrant in the Miss Australia Quest. MAJ Bob Roche, RSM Bob Mason and SPR Parker presented a fundraising cheque to the unidentified representative from the Spastic Society. The the newspaper article is from the Bendigo Advertiser. Originally from Melbourne, Tracy, 23, is the latest entrant in the Miss Golden North segment of the Miss Australia Quest. The highlight of Tracy’s quest will be an open day at Fortuna, once the magnificent home of Bendigo’s Quartz King, George Lansell. This open day at Fortuna, on Sunday, August 26, between 10 am and 4 pm, will give district residents a rare opportunity of inspecting this magnificent building and its gardens. These trousers are part of a Disruptive Pattern Combat Uniform issued by the Australian Airforce to Bernard Farley during service. This uniform type was used in base and field activities and was replaced in 2014 by the General Purpose Uniform as the uniform worn during general base duties and in non-warlike environments.This item has social significance, as an item of uniform worn by Warrnambool RSL community member and Secretary (2019), Bernard Farley during service with the Australian Airforce. The item is a representative example of previously standard issue Airforce uniform and is in excellent condition. As a set, the uniform has aesthetic significance in it’s design, incorporating the Disruptive Pattern style of camouflage which has its roots in the 1980s and continues to be adapted into uniform design by the Defence Force.Disruptive Pattern trousers in five colours of green and brown. These badges were almost certainly issued to Leslie Samuel Woods of Albury who enlisted 10 May 1915 having completed first year medicine at Melbourne University. He served a year at the Convalescent Hospital, Harefield UK, before being ordered home to complete his medical studies. He would have completed his studies near the end on 1918 and attempted to re-enlist but had not entered training before the Armistice. Doctor Leslie Woods was a General Practitioner in Albury till his death. He is buried in Albury Waugh Road Cemetery.Well provenanced object illustrating the WWI experience of a young Albury man.Two lapel badges pinned to a piece of paper with a handwritten notation. An item from an outstanding and diverse photographic collection, assembled by members of the Christian and Washfold families of Kew.Juvenile Temperance Society Kew ‘Band of Hope’ issued to Orlando Christian on 1 August 1860. The two- colour printed certificate advises the member to avoid the use of tobacco and snuff and commits the child to abstain from intoxicating drinks. The illuminated certificate has a prototype Australian coat of arms centred in the lower border. The Band of Hope movement originated in Leeds in 1847. In contrast to the Rechabites it was a children’s movement.
