Original material lent by Craig Tooke of the Melbourne Tramcar Preservation Association at Haddon. Photocopied by Warren Doubleday March 2000. List of contents produced 30/6/2000 and then bound. Book, Westinghouse Brake & Saxby Signal Co. Ltd, "The Westinghouse Brake - Reference Book", 1904
One Hundred page book with nine fold out plates tipped in, green card titled "The Westinghouse Brake - Reference Book", published by Westinghouse Brake Co. in 1904. Text has been sewn into sections and then bound into the book. Plate inside front cover, has been printed in colour showing the extent of the use of the Westinghouse brake system that had been adopted on the various railways. Plat 110E (page 43) has an orange plastic component acting as a brake handle and showing how the various ports and parts interrelated in the valve. Inside the back cover are two loose folded sheets, plate 209 and 209A, Improved triple valve and the "Graduating Release Valve", dated August 1905. Covers compressed air brake systems on railway trains, showing how they are designed, operated, parts listing and has a number of pasted in erratum in the book. "Colin Rutledge" stamped on top of page 1 and inside front cover. Yields information about equipment made for Overhead tramway range and materials used and how correspondence was exchanged with the SEC via the Agent General.4914.1 - Letter from The Forest City Electric Co. Limited of Manchester 23/6/1937, to the Agent General for Victoria and the SEC, notifying that they have included within the shipment free of charge, three sample insulators and booklet 15.2. 4914.2 - Booklet or Sheet 15.2, titled "Overhead Line Material" comprising 12 pages showing details of porcelain insulators available from The Forest City Electric Co., and other associated equipment, including cap and cone suspensions, wood strain insulators, Giant Strain Insulators, overhead frogs, crossings, bonding compressors and contactors. Each sheet had three staples on left hand side and two punch holes. In the Second World War the Female Relatives badge was issued to the nearest female relative of members of the RAN, the AIF, including members of the Australian Army Nursing Service and the RAAF on active service abroad. Stars displayed on a bar suspended below the badge represented the number of relatives involved in the War effort.The badge on display was issued to Nora Marjorie Fielding, whose husband VX79262 Pte Donald Fielding, served with Army Headquarters Signals Regiment in WW2.A badge with a safety chain and pin attached, long pin on back for wearing. The bell from the final tram, Tram No. 34, to run on Lydiard Street North in 1971. Demonstrates a conductors communication or signal bell made for use on tramcars. A reminder of the network of trams that existed in Ballarat. Brass Conductor Communication Bell consisting of cast frame, bell pull part, one nut to secure the bell to the frame and two rivets securing for the bell pull part.
