This book records the impounding of animals which have been found wandering on local roads or trespassing on land. Many are farm animals and give the various breeds of animals from red Ayrshire cows to bay ponies, and nanny goats. Impounded animals were either claimed by their owners after payment of a fee or if unclaimed , they were sold. The Warrnambool pound was situated on Merrivale Drive.This book is a record of a practice which was necessary to remove stock which were wandering on local roads or trespassing on neighbours. It contains many local names and is of social interest. Rectangular book with hard cover Fawn cloth with red leather spine. Pages are lined in blue and red and pages are headed in black . It dates from 1957 to 1998 with one entry for 2004.Entries are hand written in blue and black. The ribbon has a thick centre band of orange with three thinner bands appearing on either side, which are in order from centre to outwards of white, black and blue. The ribbon is also missing a pin at the top, so the material is open-ended. The front side of the medal depicts a relief (elevated from the surface) of a bearded man's face facing to the left side, and Latin text also in relief follows the top perimeter of the medal. The reverse side of the medal is a relief of a man on a horse carrying a sword. The horse can be seen standing on a shield with a skull visible just to the left side of it, and water can be seen on the horizon. Fawns's Brewery, near Oak Street, Golden Square. ( James Lerk, Nov. 1999). As early as 1858 George Mackay recorded in the Annals that James Fawns aged 35 years was in the brewery business in Golden Square. James Fawns (1824-21/9/1891) was born in Kincardshire, Scotland and came to Australia in February 1853 on the "South Seas". In 1858 he came to Bendigo and entered into a partnership with George Elliott as brewers in Golden Square. After this partnership was dissolved in 1862, James continued the business alone. James married Helen McFarlane McAllen in 1860. Following his death, James' 3rd son Benjamin Ellison Fawns carried on the business before becoming a pastoralist in Deniliquin by 1893.Sepia coloured photo. The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. It was the first independent school of nursing in Victoria and continued until it closed in 1989. The book "The First of its Kind" was published in 2015. Printed in Bendigo by "Bendigo Modern Press". Memories compiled by Peter Rosewall; who attended the last NDSN school PTS 108 between 1986 - 89.Six typed pages about the Kerrigan family from Mildura. Four of the siblings trained from 1970. Kathleen Kerrigan School 76 trained at St John of God hospital. Francis went to School 90, Michelle to school 106. James began his training in school 97. All completed general nursing. The story begins with Kathleens training, but most information is about Francis and James. James was a male nurse who completed his training at Lister House, but the males were accommodated away from the female trainees. Francis went on to do midwifery and later psychiatric nursing and Janes worked in Private Investigation. Also included are two photographs of firstly school 95, Group 2 1980 and School 96, Group 1 1980.
