Set of four driver / conductor traffic numeral badges or personnel employee numbers and one brass MMTB button. .1 - Badge number, MMTB style, "1453", plated brass to give a gold finish with the numbers fixed to a bar top and bottom and two lugs on the rear to clip into a cap. Made by Stokes and Sons Melbourne - has been stamped onto the rear. .2 - ditto - engraved into a layered plastic backing - black plastic with a white underlay, used by tram crews to indicate their assigned personal employee number. Later MMTB prior to The Met type. See Reg Item 1368 for other examples. .3 - ditto - The Met - Three parts - holder made from gold coloured plastic with a metal Met (the flying one) logo fixed above the holder and fitted with a pin. Stamped metal uniform badge for MMTB Inspectors. Tramways Board logo at top of badge in silver finish, the words "INSPECTOR" and the scroll outline in brass or gold colour. The area where the inspector's number has been painted on is in brass/gold finish. The number "103" has been painted on in royal blue colour. The enamel finish within the scroll work also finished in royal blue. On rear badge in brass/gold finish, with word "STOKES" stamped into. Two metal rings have been soldered onto the rear of the badge and a spring steel clip provided to enable the badge to be clipped to a hat. Quotes the Acting Premier Mr. Garvin. Follows a mass meeting of tramway employees the previous Sunday. Item notes that the Govt was planning to re-organise the SEC and the trams are likely to come under the control of the MMTB, or the Transport Board. Indicated or provided a location to tram drivers and passengers of a tram stop that trams had to be hailed or be requested to stop or to alight. Has the outline of a Z class tram. Introduced after Z class trams started to be used. A small sign providing details of the route number could be placed on the bottom edge. The 1977-78 MMTB Annual report has a photo of one of these then-new signs.Demonstrates the form of tram stop that the MMTB used in Melbourne that trams had to be signaled to stop at. Style introduced following following the use of Z class trams. Used by the MMTB in an attempt to keep tram tracks clear of motor cars. It seldom worked. Signs would have been fixed to the ends of a tram so it could be seen by motorists. See Item 6087 for another version.Demonstrates the methods the MMTB to ask motorists to keep tram tracks clear during the 1950's and 1960's.
