It was said in the 'heyday of Bendigo's gold mining it was possible to walk underground from Spring Gully to Eaglehawk' Article describes a walk done in 1988 from the 8th level of the Central Deborah Gold Mine shaft (270 m) through a series of tortuous and at times hazardous drives, stopes, shafts and cross overs to the 8th level of the North Deborah Gold Mine. Steven Hinde, Bendigo Mining's Chief Geologist lead the trek, which proved it was still possible to go down one shaft and emerge up another. Letter and attachment, 21st December, 1983, from Bendigo Mining NL re proposed underground mining exploration Central Deborah, North Deborah and Deborah shafts referencing Town and Country Notice. Bendigo Mining's intention to dewater the Deborah mines and the discharge of same into the Bendigo Sewerage Authority, is discussed. The Town and Country Planning Permit Application attached details the pumping of water, rehabilitation of underground workings and erection of above ground facilities to achieve same. Use of the equipment already available on the site of the Central Deborah will'/ be utilised to pump the water.
