Charlton Motel built in the 1960s.Colour photograph of Charlton Motel taken from across the Calder Hwy looking south east. The motel is a white brick single storey building with red-brown trim on the eaves. The verandah and windows are arched. There is a large tree in the centre of the photo and a white driving toward the photographer. There is a yellow sign in front of the motel and an orange sign on the roof.

The Ross-Ensign Ful-Vue Camera was used between 1954 and 1959. It has a flat front plate extending around the viewfinder. It's red window at the back (helps with winding film on) is closable. It has a cast alloy body and a collapsible hood around the viewfinder. The Duncan family have occupied 'Glencoe' since 1888 when John Duncan purchased it from M. O'Brien. In 1972 Glencoe was the site for the Sunbury Pop Festival.A coloured photograph of the front facade of a sandstone building. Building was commenced in 1887, and after one year, the buildings were opened. The Post Office was transferred to the new Commonwealth Government in 1901. The Police Station and Court House, sold by the Victorian Government to the City of Boroondara in 2007, are now a community cultural centre and performing arts venue.The buildings were listed on the Victorian Heritage Register Register (HO885) in 1991. The original postcards in this series (2013.002 to 2013.018) were generously loaned to Williamstown Botanic Gardens by a private collector for copying. The logo in the middle of the words ‘POST CARD’ indicates the card was printed by M. Schulz in Prague. Schulz was a long-established company from Prague and printed postcards for customers from worldwide. Schulz printed in photo-chromolithography. The Curator’s lodge, designed by the Town Surveyor, HV Champion, was constructed in 1907 following the re-organisation of the north-east corner with the demolition of the old curator's cottage and erection of new gates. The postcards are evidence of the interest the gardens held as a subject for postcard publishers. The text and images provide a snapshot into fashions, social interests and concerns of the time. The professionally produced images provide a pictorial history of Gardens including changing planting styles, various structures and features of the Gardens eg the aviary, cannons, the fountain, the second Curator’s Lodge and gates. The images offer an opportunity to compare garden vistas with the present day. The card also demonstrates how postcards were used as a method of contact in contrast to the contemporary use as souvenirs. A colour image of a house (the Curators lodge) behind a fence with two children sitting on it. There are two large Cordylines, one in the forefront of the image standing in lawn and surrounded by pink flowers, and one closer to the house. The house is brown timber with two brick chimneys and has a green corrugated iron roof with gables over the windows at the front and side.Front: ‘The Lodge, / Williamstown Gardens’. Built for a client by Albert Harbert in the 1920s. Albert built many local homes. This is a fine example of its style with double gables and return verandah. A black and white photograph of a weatherboard Californian Bungalow style house with a tiled roof. It has an L-shaped verandah with solid pillars decorated with stucco which is also on the chimney. The weatherboards are decoratively notched and the upper sections of the grouped windows have diamond panes. Framed by a woven wire fence along the street frontage. Albert Ernest Vine Snr, was a City of Camberwell Councillor from 1926-1934 and 1937-1944. He was also Mayor of Camberwell in 1940/41. There is a sundial in the Surrey Gardens erected in his memory. Known as Ernest, he and his wife Edith (nee Sword) lived at 3 Norfolk Road from 1920-1945. Earlier addresses are on file in Alan Holt card index. He was active in Surrey Hills Progress Association. He was the son of William James Vine (1860-1920) and Sarah Elizabeth Gunner (1859-1941). W J Vine & Co Timber Yards were located at 587-593 Canterbury Road. Elizabeth Gunner's brother was Henry Gabez Gunner (1862-1940), a builder in the Surrey Hills area. Box Hill Reporter (6/6/19) records that Ernest applied to Camberwell City Council for permission to subdivide land in Norfolk Road with a frontage of 85' into 2 equal lots for a dwelling to be erected on each, one for himself and the other for his mother. Albert Ernest & Edith Vine had the following children: Albert Ernest Jnr (b 1904), Robert (b 1908), Edgar (b 1912), Inez (b 1915) and Beth (b 1918). Both No 1 & No 3 were demolished c1970.Black and white photo of a 1920s style single-storey weatherbaord home with leadlight windows, a tiled roof and a wide veranda supported by timber columns on stucco pillars. The veranda has a simple timber balastrade and a flight of timber stairs to it. There does not appear to be front fence. An Edwardian style timber house with a galvanised iron roof on a wide block. It is painted in a mid-brown with white trim to the windows, gables, finials and veranda posts. The veranda is timber with 6 turned posts. The front door is accessed from the side off the driveway in which are parked 2 (?) Ford falcons, one cream-coloured and the other red.

Humberstone's Royal Hotel was a substantial 2-storey building on the corner of Canterbury and Broughton Road. The hotel was built in 1887 to replace an older hotel (Delany's Hotel) built further east in 1856. It was de-licensed in 1921 after a "Local Option Poll" and became Tower House Day & Boarding School under Miss Marion Beetson from 1922 until 1932. It was demolished in 1932. There were 25 students in the 1920's, mostly boarders from outside Surrey Hills and all primary school students. The school room was detached from the main building and there was 6 acres of playing area. The old bar was the business office, the girls' dormitory the old dining room. Marion Beetson was the teacher, Mary Beetson managed the household. Their father was an Indian Army officer. The younger children wore a school blazer with the T.H.C. badge on the pocket. Miss Susan Kelsall visited to give piano lessons and Prof. Kelsall taught French. Miss Marion Beetson died in Castlemaine on 8 February 1952. The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. It was the first independent school of nursing in Victoria and continued until it closed in 1989.Training school 1 commenced 23/3/1950.
