The sketch of the Pig & Whistle would be pre1968 as the gate was remodeled with two white half gates at this time and the ivy removed. The building was purchased in 1968 by the Benash family and renovated inside and out with a white, Tudor style outer facade. It was renamed Tatra Hut. The restaurant was sold again c1975 and became a Reception Centre. This information was provided by Victor Grotaers who was the resident solo-accordionist in 1968 when the new Tatra Hut opened. He recalls the opening night as being a large affair reported by Channel 9 at the time.Copy of a pencil sketch of 'The Pig & Whistle' restaurant at Mt Dandenong. The building still stands but became the Tatra Hut c1968. The sketch is signed H.R. Ham. Boys classes were held each Friday night in nine various locations around Melbourne. It gave the opportunity for Junior Legatees to meet and be involved with activities they may have missed out on due to the death of their fathers. Legacy clubs ran classes for junior legatees for many years. It was part of providing for the children of their deceased comrades. Activities included basketball competitions, gymnastics, boxing, judo and swimming lessons. There were annual sports days when groups came together for friendly competition. The date is approximately 1991 as it was stored with a lot of items from 1990 and 1991. USCGC Northwind W-282 was a Wind-class ice breaker from the United States Coast Guard Cutter. Semper Paratus is Latin for "Always Ready".Wooden shield with large round plaque center with same shield shaped image on it. Image features a boat with a day scene on the left and a night scene to the right. Below the boat is a polar bear head. Around the side of this image reads "USCGC NORTH WIND W-282. POLAR EXPLORATION. SEMPER PARATUS". This round plaque is enclosed by a gold Laurel wreath. Under this is a rectangular piece of fabric mostly green with yellow and black/navy as well. Shortly before 12 o'clock Sat. night a fire broke out in the engine-house of the North Garden Gully & Passby Company. Flames first noticed by neighbours. Contacted Capt. J Walker - Temperance Brigade. Building was of brick. Interior of building completely gutted. Winding plant appears to be not altogether destroyed. Advises that a formal notice by the Minister for Electrical Undertakings Mr. Reid was tabled the previous day after the SEC served the notice upon the Minister.
