Badge, Methodist Girls' Comradeship
This badge was not worn on the regalia of the Methodist Girls' Comradeship. It was designed in 1918 by Miss Bessie Sanger of Bondi. "The shape of the badge is the ivy leaf which stands for friendship - fellowship with our Heavenly Father and in His Church and friendship is our Comradeship with each other. The background is blue, symbolising fellowship. White is the symbol of purity and gold symbolises "true happiness". It is the symbol of wealth, and the greatest wealth in life is "true happiness" - a happiness that comes only when our lives, our wills, are one with God's will for us. This meaning of the badge shall be explained to the Comrade/Ray either at her initiation/welcome or on presentation of the badge. The badge is worn on the left should or collar (not on Regalia)." - from Leaders' Manual for Comradeship 1970.MGC 062.1 and MGC 062.2 Blue, white and gold enamel lapel Methodist Girls' Comradeship badges. flag, 1960/1970's
This flag was used by St Joseph's School, Orbost at assemblies. St Joseph's Catholic School in Orbost was planned from 1913 when the town's population was increasing rapidly. It wasn't until 1923 that the school was built in Raymond Street next to St Colman's Church. Fifty-five students were initially enrolled and taught in two rooms. When the numbers increased to 170 work began on extensions which were completed in 1959. St Joseph's school had classes to Form 4 at one stage. Later on Form 2 was the highest level. However, after Nagle College at Bairnsdale built a new school on the Lindenow Road site, a Nagle College school bus ran from Orbost and the school was reduced to Grade 6. It was also about this time that the last of the St Joseph teaching nuns left Orbost. From 1969 to the early 1980s the secondary St Joseph students attended Orbost High School for the practical subjects of Woodwork and Home Economics. Today enrolments reflect the declining population of the district. This item is an example of an item used in an Orbost school in the second half of 20th century.A cloth Australian National Flag which has a blue background. The Union Jack is in the upper left corner. Below the Union Jack is a white Commonwealth Star. The Southern Cross is shown on the right hand side of the flag in white. There is a white rope and two metal clips inserted into the left hand pocket/seam.Inside a diamond is N.V. BRAND. Geo. PICKERS Co. P/L CANVASflag-australian st-joseph's-school-orbost heraldry -

Monbulk RSL Sub Branch
Book, Boolarong Press, Century of silent service, 2013
Australia's Submariners are a group with an extremely strong sense of identity that goes well beyond occupational comradeship or the esprit de corps of military life in peace or war. Since 1914, the unique skills, attitudes, values and demands of the work they do and the environment in which they do it have forged unparalleled camaraderie. A camaraderie that extends beyond nationality, embracing submariners past and present of every other nation. No one but submariners understand the experience of diving deep beneath the waves in technology filled tubes of steel, each submariner totally dependent on the other for a safe return to the surface. The ethos of Australia's submariners is based upon these factors and remains strong even when they leave the sea and take up other occupations. Australia's future submarines will certainly present challenges in terms of sophistication, technology and capability however the characteristics of our submariners evolved over previous generations will remain much the same; trained and equipped to meet the challenges; just as they have been met and surmounted so many times, in silence, over a century of service.Bib, ill, maps, p.243.non-fictionAustralia's Submariners are a group with an extremely strong sense of identity that goes well beyond occupational comradeship or the esprit de corps of military life in peace or war.
