Used for surveying classes at the Ballarat School of Mines. Purchased/acquired during Queen Victoria's reign. This item is possibly the sextant donated to the Ballarat School of Mines Museum on 21 October 1885 by D. Turpie of Ballarat.Timber (ebony?) framed sextant with ivory scale, brass radial arm and ivory vernier scale.
