Put together by a member of the Eltham Community Action Group in participation with various artists, writers, local business people and other local citizens and sent to Minister Maclellan, Planning Minister in the Kennet Government in protest of proposed plans to sell the former Eltham Shire Office site at 895 Main Road Eltham in order to develop a Shell Service Station and Hungry Jacks fast food outlet. Thought to have been used in shoemaking classes held for repatriated soldiers at Ballarat School of Mines. At the Ballarat Technical Art School, during the early twentieth century, leather art was popular but had little industrial value and was usually a minor study. The Victorian Education Department set examinations in art leather work. Copies of many Technical School Examination Papers are kept within the University's historical collection.Black wooden box with metal latch and handle. Badorf Shoe Company, Inc. was started in Lititz, PA, by brothers Norman and Paul Badorf. The company was owned and operated by the Badorf family for nearly 40 years until its purchase by Ura Gingerich in 1967. Forty six years later, the family tradition has continued and the company is now operated by Ura’s son Duane Gingerich and grandsons, Justin and Brandon Gingerich. John Oxley was a shoe and butchers’ knife manufacturer, who was listed in Whitecroft UK in 1822 . By 1825, he was based in Hollis Croft. John apparently died in about 1837. He had two sons – George (1808-1879) and James (1811-1881) who took over the business. George moved to Indianna, USA and in 1868 James continued to manufacture 'Cooks’ and palette knives and steels" Oxley’s trade mark was a butcher’s knife crossed with a sharpening steel (and the letters ‘JO’). The firm stayed in the family until 1960. Early settlers were self reliant and repaired their own equipment for kitchen,dairy, farm, horses, carts using various tools .
