Henry Sebire returned to Guernsey on the "Caledonian" in 1888. He came back to Australia via sailing ship to Jersey and then to the coast of France. Travelled by train to Paris and Marseilles, and left for Australia on "Oceania". Arrived in Melbourne in December 1888. The "Caledonian" was built in France in 1882 - 4140 tons, 413 feet long. Lost in the Mediterranean to enemy action on 30/6/1917. On loan from Alvan Sebire - Great Grandson of Henry and Martha Sebire. This is a ship model of the Golden Hind. About the “Golden Hind” The English galleon “Golden Hind”, a mid-16th century Elizabethan warship, was launched in 1577. It was formerly known as the “Pelican”. The Golden Hind was the flagship of Captain Sir Frances Drake, in which he became the first Englishman to circumnavigate the world 1577-1580. His companion ships were the Swan, Marigold, Benedict and the Elizabeth. During this voyage, in 1578, Drake renamed the Pelican as the Golden Hind in honour of is patron. Sir Francis Drake [1544 – 1596] brought the Golden Hind home from his circumnavigation of the globe with looted gold, percelain, jewels and cash worth 35,000,000 million pounds in today’s money. It was the largest treasure every captured at that date. Only two ships returned – the “Golden Hind” and the “Elizabeth”. HMAS Sydney (III) played a significant role in the Vietnam War, primarily as a transport ship carrying troops, equipment, and supplies from Sydney to Vung Tau. The ship made 25 trips to South Vietnam between 1965 and 1972, earning the nickname "the Vung Tau Ferry"A ship model with ratio of 1:75 of HMAS Sydney. The car is a Mercury V8 sedan. L Patterson retired as a Commander and John O'Connor retired as an Ass. Commissioner. The Transport Branch driver and other patrolman are not known.

Note the graffiti. Older 20th.c and earlier railway cars were rolling palaces of the cabinet makers art. Full of polished timber, plated & embossed metal fittings, soft upholstery & beveled glass. In their earliest form, the Tait’s and earlier swing door cars for even modest suburban work, reflected some level of this design approach.
