Photographed in 1872 by William PATERSON as one of a series for the Melbourne Exhibition of 1873; original mount hanging in Engineering Department at Port Melbourne Town Hall at 19-9-1994 but now in Port Phillip,City Collection. This set of original prints belonged to Town Clerk Syd ANDERSON, then to his daughter-in-law Phyllis ANDERSON (donor). Accompanied by list of captions, both hand written and typed (the latter a partial listing).View of Beach Street from gate at Port Melbourne railway station entrance (corner of Railway Place and Princes Street). RMS Oceana postcard produced by Vienna Studio, 68 Beach Street, Port Melbourne. The Vienna Studio was run by Austrian-born Kallman FEITEL, first in Richmond around 1902 then in Port Melbourne from around 1904. The Oceana was built 1887-88 for P&O at Harland & Wolff, Belfast, Northern Ireland and sailed on her maiden voyage from London for Melbourne and Sydney on 19 March 1888. The Oceana collided with the Pisagua when leaving the Port of Tilbury, England and sank on 15 March 1912. She was subsequently blown up in July 1912 by the Royal Navy as the wreck was a hazard to shipping and is now a popular diving site.White postcard with a black and white photograph of RMS Oceana.transport - shipping, vienna studio, rms ocena, kallman feitel -

Rosa Harden HARRIS married George Quick at St Peters, Melbourne on the 29th December 1858. George was born in New York and his father, Joseph, was a Cordwainer. Rosa had been born in London and her parents were Jane RINTOUL and John Mark HARRIS, a silversmith. One of the witnesses was Rosa's sister, Charlotte Elizabeth HARRIS, who was to marry John LOWE. Rosa went on to own a two story brick shop and dwelling on the corner of Dow & Graham Streets, Port Melbourne. Rev William Butters (1810 - 1887). Born Hibbaldstone, Lincolnshire on 24 January 1810. Entered the Wesleyan ministry in 1833 and sent as a missionary to Van Dieman's Land. Worked with convicts at Port Arthur, then served at Hobart, Ross and Launceston. In 1850 he was appointed to Melbourne. His health failed during the unprecedented difficulties initiated by the discovery of gold in 1851. Appointed to Adelaide 1855 - 1862. returned to Victoria in 1862, but his health broke down completely and he returned to England in 1863 and became a supernumerary. A founder of the Wesleyan Mission Carlton. President of the Australasian Conference in 1858. William Butters lived for 24 years in the London (Brixton) circuit before dying suddenly on 10 October 1887.B & W waist length printed etching of Rev. Caroline Elizabeth Newcomb (1812 - 1874) woman squatter. Born in London and emigrated to Hobart Town in 1833. She went to Port Phillip in 1836 as governess to the children of John Batman. She met Anne Drysdale in Geelong and they set up a farming partnership. Caroline Newcomb joined the Wesleyan Methodist Society in 1839 and became the first secretary of the Methodist Church at Drysdale, founded in 1849. After Anne's death in in 1853 she continued to run the Coryule property. On 27 November 1861 she married Wesleyan minister the Rev James Davy Dodgson. She died at Brunswick on 3 October 1874.
