John Stanley Coltman attended Ballarat College 1913 - 1920; Son of W F Coltman of 208 Clarendon St, Brother of W Lawrie, Owen H & Gwenda. A high achieving student John went on to become Dux of College 1919, School Captain 1920, Captain of cricket 1920, tennis 1918, 1919, 1920, football 1919, 1920, athletics 1919 1920, Stroke of first crew 1919 and 1920. The Coltman Demonstration Room, part of the MacKinnon Wing First Floor, was named in honour of John (1919py) and Owen Coltman (1917). This book was donated back to the school library in 1985. Miss Roberts: Our Senior Mistress, Miss Ethel P. Roberts, having been in the teaching service for forty-three years retired on September 14th this year. She had been senior mistress at our School since its foundation eight years ago. The Head Prefects, Faye Davis and Alex Suvoltos presented her with a sheath of flowers and a portable radio on behalf of the pupils as a token of our appreciation of her loyalty and devotion to the School. The staff, on the previous eveing had honoured Miss Roberts at a dinner held at the George Hotel. In 1978 a new campus for Williamstown Grammar, named Westbourne, was established at Truganina to accommodate the new secondary school. The first year 12 class graduated in 1983 and to commemorate this historic event, the Year 12 art and signature book was begun. Since 1983, each Year 12 group has nominated a student to create an artwork, which in many cases represents a theme that was important to the Year 12 cohort at the time, to be signed by each student of Year 12. The practice quickly became to create the artwork on a separate sheet of paper and paste it across the fold of each consecutive double page spread. The book, opened at the entry of the graduating class, would then be displayed at the Year 12 Valedictory Dinner each year.This books commemorates each graduating year 12 class since the establishment of the secondary campus at Truganina. It is an example of beginning community building traditions for the new school.Red vinyl bound book with tan-coloured suede corners and spine. The front cover features gold embossed lettering of the school name above a school logo (self-adhesive applied after manufacture) with further embossed gold lettering 'Year 12' below.
